The authors present performance measurements for data transfer services at the CASE (common application service elements), transport, and datalink layers of Motorola's implementation of the Manufacturing Automation Protocol (MAP) for a range of message sizes. They compare the performance results of using a stop-and-wait vs. a sliding window protocol, and find that the sliding window permits a 40% speedup. The observe that end-to-end latency exceeds transmission delay by a factor of 25 for 1000-byte messages, thereby making all network access, transmission, and propagation delays negligible when compared to protocol processing. They show that the throughput of CASE and transport is basically linear with message size whereas the throughput of datalink is not. ABSTRACT We propose RMASBench, a new benchmarking tool based on the RoboCup Rescue Agent simulation system, to easily compare coordination approaches in a dynamic rescue scenario. In particular, we offer simple interfaces to plug-in coordination algorithms without the need for implementing and tuning low-level agents behaviors. Moreover, we add to the realism of the simulation by providing a large scale crowd simulator, which exploits GPUs parallel architecture, to simulate the behavior of thousands of agents in real time. Finally, we focus on a specific coordination problem where fire fighters must combat fires and prevent them from spreading across the city. We formalize this problem as a Distributed Constraint Optimization Problem and we compare two state-of-the art solution techniques: DSA and MaxSum. We perform an extensive empirical evaluation of such techniques considering several standard measures for performance (e.g. damages to buildings) and coordination overhead (e.g., message exchanged and non concurrent constraint checks). Our results provide interesting insights on limitations and benefits of DSA and MaxSum in our rescue scenario and demonstrate that RMASBench offers powerful tools to compare coordination algorithms in a dynamic environment.

In this paper an algorithm has been proposed to balance the loads in a distributed computing system based on game theory which models the load balancing problem as a non-cooperative game among the users. The proposed load balancing game, which is infinite and with perfect information, aims to establish fairness both in system and user level. The optimal or near-optimal solution of the game is approximated by a genetic algorithm and an introduced hybrid population-based simulated annealing algorithm, using the concept of Nash equilibrium. Since all users responses are shown to converge to their near-optimal solution, distribution of users’ jobs is “fair”. Simulations demonstrate near-optimality of the proposed algorithms in terms of makespan and fairness for the proposed load balancing scheme.

Aerial mapping is attracting more attention due to the development in unmanned aerial vehicles and their availability and also vast applications that require a wide aerial photograph of a region in a specific time. This paper concentrates on image registration of aerial images. The proposed method is able to sample automatically and align the sensed images to form the final map. The results are compared with satellite images that it shows a reasonable performance with geometrically correct registration.
