OP clarified in comments they are attending "in an official capacity, representing our company". This clarification was needed as a few commenters and questioners queried or implied it wasn't clear.

Jun 4, 2024 at 23:32 comment added Anthony @CdkMoose, for ordinary security testing of code, my official laptop works fine as the software our developers writes is not INHERENTLY AND DELIBERATELY malicious. The software we will be exposed to at this conference solely exists for malicious purposes.

Jun 4, 2024 at 12:40 comment added cdkMoose I'm surprised your department doesn't already have burner laptops for your own testing usage, maybe that is the angle to pursue
Jun 4, 2024 at 12:18 comment added matt freake Given your other questions, I'm surprised you want to keep working for this company
Jun 4, 2024 at 10:17 comment added Klaus Nielsen You must be happy your company is not in the vehicle construction business. They'd probably ask you to use your own car when doing crash-tests...

Jun 4, 2024 at 3:55 comment added Sourav Ghosh Are you attending this conference on your own interest / accord, or this is a part of your job? If this is part of your job, your company should provide for the necessary arrangements to meet the requirements - as simple as that. If they are not willing to provide for, and still want you to represent the company - I'm sorry, but you need a better manager / company to work for.

Jun 4, 2024 at 1:59 comment added user145885 Who is the motivator for attending the conference (with its inherent risks)? In my personal view, that is the party that is responsible for providing the resources to make the conference beneficial. Just my two cents...

Jun 4, 2024 at 1:36 comment added Dan Is Fiddling By Firelight If you do end up being forced to do so, I'd totally cover the lid with a giant sticker saying "CompanyName is too cheap to provide me a burner laptop". I also definitely wouldn't buy anything new, I'd either use the oldest crappiest device I already owned - assuming it still boots a circa 2006 dual core 32bit clunker with a totally dead battery and fell onto concrete beauty marks on the corners - or the cheapest used piece of crap I could find on craigslist/etc.
