If you say removing a position threw off dates across other positions, that'd make things worse. I mean, how exactly can that happen? If you're using some word processor, it's functionally impossible for that to happen. If you're using a tool where that can happen (e.g. letting AI make it for you), stop using that tool for this, or at least carefully double-check everything it produces.

The dates should be the source of truth -- it's ok to automatically calculate duration from dates, but do not calculate dates from duration (or you may end up in this mess again). And dates in separate entries should most definitely not be calculated from each other.

If they wrote 2024-2025 it's ambiguous but they can defend it. If they actually wrote Jan 2024 - Dec 2025 then it's definitely false.
| 14 hours ago | comment | added | Olivier Dulac | @jcaron: I believe you meant to say dec 2024-jan 2025? | |
| 14 hours ago | comment | added | jcaron | Did the dates you mention include months (e.g. January 2024 - December 2025) or just years (2024 - 2025)? In the first case you are actually misrepresenting things. In the latter case it's open to interpretation. | |
| 15 hours ago | comment | added | Nuclear Hoagie | I see you tagged this "background check", is there one? In my experience it'd be a bit unusual to verify specific employment dates down to the month, unless there's some more obvious mistake like claiming 5 years' experience in the space of 1 year. But the details might matter more if there is a formal background check for a sensitive job, depending on the field. | |
