    $\begingroup$ Semelparity is not directly linked to size, but it is indirectly linked - these are species that are very likely to be killed before they get a chance to mate once, let alone a second time, so if they do luck out and find a partner it makes sense to put all of their energy into that one mating. You don't need humans to be small, just make their environment very, very dangerous and have them lead mostly solitary lives, where the chances of running into a partner before getting killed is low. $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 14, 2019 at 11:42
