| Aug 26, 2021 at 17:28 | comment | added | pygosceles | @FaitoDayo It's true that the space is larger, although the oft-repeated rationale of people being flamboyant/prideful/irrational seems a bit like a dual of Deus ex machina. Irrationality knows no bounds, so coming up with an irrational reason for something doesn't exactly challenge or even necessarily invite creativity. | |

| Aug 25, 2021 at 18:06 | comment | added | pygosceles | "This world's technology, civil right, human right, and political wisdom is at least equal to modern era." With the exception of technology, that is a very, very, very low bar. | |
| Aug 25, 2021 at 14:40 | comment | added | ttbek | Just a heads up, I think the word you want is 'garish.' 'Garnish' means something quite different. I thought it was a typo, but then I saw you had it in a comment as well so I thought there may be some confusion. | |
| Aug 25, 2021 at 13:58 | comment | added | AJFaraday | My first thought is that they're not combat machines designed for pitch warfare with similar machines, but heavy-handed law enforcement machines. They are supposed to be seen, and feared. | |

| Aug 24, 2021 at 21:37 | comment | added | Mazura | Visual friend or foe identification. For 30y my Mechwarrior paint jobs have always been the classic warning stripe giraffe yellow to reduce friendly fire. It levels the playing field with the AI which intrinsically knows who's who. - If I put a hole in a blue and red mech that was supposed to be painted yellow, that's your fault. Bannerman are to hoist the correct colors. | |

| Aug 24, 2021 at 20:47 | comment | added | David Rouse | One game (Ogre I think) waived it off as sensor fusion. Most people watch the battle through screens and on those screens units are overlaid with the colorful paint jobs you see on the miniatures in the game. The idea was that if you were actually there you would see drab camo. | |

| Aug 24, 2021 at 15:07 | comment | added | user28434 | "Stealth paintjob" is a fairly recent development. It's less than century old. It's all due to advanced firearms that allowed to kill precisely and from the very long distance. Before that everyone were painted in any colors you can imagine. There were no need to blend with surroundings. So, if in your world there're no long-distance combat — your combat machines can be bright and colorful. | |
