Wormholes as time machines like this is so commonplace idea I didn't think it needed explaining. My bad! Basically moving one mouth of a wormhole at relativistic speed means time dilation for moving mouth creates a time difference between the two mouths. Step through the stationary mouth & you're in the future. Speculative physics at best, but it does solve the problem without leaving any unintended loopholes that might destroy the planet.
