Sep 13, 2016 at 20:11 comment added Jeroen Mostert @Necessity: Jack-Jack's ridiculous array of powers was played for laughs, but yes -- if he grows up he can probably be excused for wearing a cape if he wants to.
Sep 13, 2016 at 20:05 comment added Necessity @JeroenMostert I would say jack-jack is a main character who can fly (IMO he is a main character). Also Jack-jack is basically the most superman-ish person (like dozens of powers), the only one who is basically invulnerable.
Sep 13, 2016 at 13:23 comment added Jeroen Mostert @motoDrizzt: the assumption that every superhero shown on screen would be Superman-levels of invulnerable/maneuverable is just wrong. Not all superheroes have all or even most of these abilities, not even outside the universe of the movie and certainly not in it. None of the main characters can even fly unassisted, for starters. While it's highly inadvisable to go flying near a jetliner engine wearing a cape if you're not invulnerable, like poor Stratogale did, having her killed by this is in no way illogical.
Sep 13, 2016 at 10:20 comment added user As for lawn mower engine versus jet engine: I think a reasonable back-of-the-envelope estimate for a lawnmower engine is low single digits horsepower. A single GE90-115B jet engine (two are used on the Boeing 777), according to Bangalore Aviation, delivers about 111,000 horsepower. That's right about five orders of magnitude more powerful. Of course, I wouldn't want to drag a 777's fuel tank around my lawn.

Sep 12, 2016 at 18:23 comment added Ryan @motoDrizzt, a lawnmower? I heard jet engine and water vortex, those are a far cry from lawn mower. Like thousands of magnitudes more power... And the heroes in The Incredibles were always shown to be vulnerable, that's why there's a long list of "terminated" ones in Syndrome's computer.
Sep 12, 2016 at 11:25 comment added motoDrizzt And just as an aside: the Incredibles "NO CAPES" is the ultimate idiocy, I've always found it the lowest point in the movie. Superheroes can fly at absurd speed, have control of gravity, are strong enough to lift a train or a plain, are mostly invulnerable to everything, and the movie goes to the line of "a nearly omnipotent and highly invulnerable being cannot resist the pressure from a lawmower towing its cape and will be killed by it's blades". Seriously, it's so illogical that it goes on a lenght to ruin the entire movie.
Sep 12, 2016 at 11:21 comment added motoDrizzt @Sky: you mean defending yourself with a cape made from, e.g., alien (Superman) or high tech (Batman) fabric, fabric that it's impenetrable even to missiles or can be used to tow a transatlantic, fabric that it is imbued with nanotech to keep the wearer warm, fabric that can imbued with micro cpus and host an IA, and so on and on?
Sep 12, 2016 at 10:51 comment added Samthere @motoDrizzt You do have a point, but people love understanding references. This answer is pretty devoid of content which explores the question in a useful way.
Sep 12, 2016 at 7:27 comment added Skye @motoDrizzt To be honest, I don't find the prospect of defending myself from sharp pointy metal sticks with a towel to be effective. But in the end it's the OP that decides what's correct anyway.
Sep 12, 2016 at 6:52 comment added motoDrizzt Is it me, or this is the wrongest answer of all, and totally subjective? All other answers gives in universe and/or out of universe objective point of view, this is just "I don't think that..." and then ignore all the historical meaning of a cape and all of it's real life uses and all the "realistical" reasons an hero could use it.
Sep 12, 2016 at 1:53 comment added Superbest "Who can be intimidated by a grown man in a cape?" - Oh come now, just a few centuries ago they were the height of classiness.
Sep 11, 2016 at 16:35 comment added user2781 A large piece of cloth is often part of the ninja's equipment, it's just not attached to him by the neck.
Sep 11, 2016 at 5:35 comment added Skye +1 when you see the Batman Arkham knight and you wonder how the hell does the cape not get snagged by the car door when he jumps in.
