Wedgwood Majolica Nautilus Shell Spoon Warmer, Amaranth and Turquoise Glazes

By Wedgwood

Located in Downingtown, PA

Wedgwood Majolica Nautilus Shell Spoon Warmer, Amaranth and Turquoise Glazes Description This Wedgwood majolica spoon warmer is naturalistically modeled as a large nautilus shell, the striated body sweeping up at one end into a tightly coiled scroll and resting upon an oval base of molded cresting waves. The ribbed exterior is glazed in an unusual palette of amaranth, a deep reddish-purple, laid in alternating chevron bands against pale blue and white that follow the growth lines of the shell. The upper edge and the coiled terminal are washed in a mottled olive-gray, and the wide opening reveals an interior of vivid turquoise, the contrast between the two surfaces giving the piece much of its visual force. The wave base is modeled in gray and white and finished with a yellow-glazed foot rim. The amaranth and pale blue striations set this example apart from the yellow, brown and green palettes more usually found on Wedgwood shell...

Clarice Cliff Cup and Saucer Set, Pine Grove rare Pattern, Art Deco 1935

By Clarice Cliff

Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire

This is a cup & saucer set in the rarely seen, hand painted "Pine Grove" Pattern by the renowned Art Deco designer Clarice Cliff. This piece dates to the late Bizarre period, Circa 1935. The Pine Grove Pattern was Newport pattern 6449, having boldly drawn black, blue and green fir trees with orange/red trunks, the whole design then covered in thin grey, blue & green bands. This pattern is rarely seen but has the distinctive "Clarice" look of the early Bizarre pieces. The cup has the Bizarre black printed stamp on the base and the saucer has the Wilkinson's honey-glaze mark, all fully documented in the book ; Clarice Cliff The Bizarre Affair, written by Leonard Griffin and Louis K. and Susan Pear Meisel...
