When something breaks down in your home, it rarely happens at a convenient time. A furnace stops working during a cold snap. An appliance quits midweek when life is already busy. That’s where America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) comes in. If a covered item breaks down, our goal is simple: help you get the issue addressed quickly, clearly, and with as little stress as possible.

Filing a home warranty claim with APHW is designed to be simple. When something breaks in your home, you call or click, we get you a claim number, you pick the licensed contractor you trust, and we handle the rest. Real people, 24/7, ready to help.

Our claims process is designed to be straightforward and flexible, giving you control while still providing support when you need it. From starting your claim to arranging payment, APHW is with you every step of the way.

If you’d like a quick overview before diving in, you can watch this short video that’ll walk you through the entire claims process from start to finish.

Start a Claim by Phone or Online

When a covered system or appliance stops working, the first step is to start a claim with America’s Preferred Home Warranty. We offer two easy ways to do this so you can choose what works best for your schedule.

  • Call us at 800.648.5006. You can speak with a live APHW customer service representative 24/7, 365 days a year.
  • Start online here. Filing online is a way to quickly get your claim number. You enter the basics about what's happened, and you're on your way.

Either route, you'll come away with a claim number and clear next steps.

This claim number is important, as it’s connected to all the next steps of the process. We recommend keeping it handy so it’s easy to reference when speaking with your contractor or our customer service team.

Hire a Contractor of Your Choice

After you receive your claim number, you can schedule a contractor of your choice to diagnose the problem. One of the key benefits of an APHW home warranty is flexibility. You’re not required to work with a pre-assigned contractor. Instead, you can choose a qualified professional you know and trust; contractors must be licensed where required by state law or regulation.

The plumber you've used before. The HVAC company your neighbor swears by. The appliance repair tech who fixed your dishwasher three years ago. Whoever you want, as long as they're licensed for the work.

When the contractor arrives, explain which system or appliance isn’t working and what issues you’ve noticed. If you let them know you have a home warranty, it’s helpful to mention that they’re still free to use their own rates and parts when providing a diagnosis and repair estimate.

This allows the contractor to work as they normally would while coordinating directly with APHW for coverage approval.

Call for Approval While the Contractor Is Present

OOnce the contractor has diagnosed the issue - and before any repairs begin - the next step is to call APHW while the contractor is still on site. This step helps ensure everything moves forward smoothly and avoids surprises later.

During the call, APHW will ask the contractor to explain the issue and provide a quote for the recommended repairs. Based on the diagnosis and your coverage, APHW will explain to you your repair coverage and options under your plan.

If the item and repair are covered, APHW will approve the claim and determine the coverage amount right over the phone.

This real-time approval helps everyone stay aligned before work begins, giving you confidence and clarity about what’s covered and what to expect.

The Repair Happens

Your contractor does the work. Depending on the item and the parts involved, that might mean finishing the job that day or coming back once parts arrive. Timing is between you and your contractor, on your schedule.

You Pay Your Deductible

You’ll be responsible for paying your deductible, which is based on the plan you selected when you enrolled in coverage. Your contractor can collect the deductible directly, while APHW handles the covered portion according to your plan’s terms.

The deductible amount is listed on your Confirmation Page. Most APHW plans run either a $50 or $100 deductible per claim.

APHW makes payment simple and flexible. We offer multiple options to accommodate both homeowners and contractors, including:

We Follow Up

After the repair is complete, an APHW customer service representative follows up with you to make sure the work was done properly and that you're satisfied with the outcome. If anything about the repair needs another look, that's when to tell us, and we'll work with you and the contractor to make it right.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I file a home warranty claim with APHW?

You can start a claim by calling us at 800.648.5006 or by filling out our online form here. Both options are available 24/7. Once your claim is started, you will receive a claim number; then contact your chosen licensed contractor to diagnose the issue. Before any work begins, call APHW with the contractor present for coverage review and approval. APHW will then coordinate payment directly with your contractor for the covered portion of the repair.

What makes APHW one of the best home warranty companies for fast claims?

APHW's claim process is built around speed and simplicity. You can start a claim by phone or online at any time, reach a real customer service representative any day of the week at any time, year-round, and choose your own licensed contractor instead of working with a dispatched technician. The approval call with your contractor typically takes about 5 minutes, and APHW will then coordinate payment directly, so there is nothing left for you to manage after the repair is complete.

Can I file a home warranty claim online?

Yes. AHW allows you to file a home warranty claim online anytime here. Online filing is often the fastest way to get a claim number, especially outside of business hours. You can also start a claim by phone if you prefer to speak with a representative directly.
