Doechii is a star. If you didn't know that before, hopefully you saw her perform at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday and know it now. You won't forget.
For her first Grammys on February 2, the 26-year-old brought the Office Siren (that's what hot girls call business casual) trend to the red carpet. Styled by Sam Woolf, her gown—the first of four custom Thom Browne looks she wore throughout the night—consisted of a form-fitting gray pinstripe dress with a matching tie over a white button-up shirt. The designer's signature red, white, and blue armband was also present, obviously.

As she changed throughout the night, for her performance and to accept her award for Best Rap Album, Doechii's outfits all worked together to form a cohesive vision. Each had that same gray color going on—and that red, white, and blue striped motif of course.
While it would've been easy to go for a business-like French manicure or a simple gray shade, LA-based nail artist Rachel Sun, took things to a much more fun place. Kept long and filed into a rounded square shape, each of the rapper's nails featured a textured, light gray color at their base. Then, the artist painted on those signature stripes and added a matching textured gray patch toward the cuticle.
How Doechii's Grammys Manicure Came to Be
Rachel spent *three full days* sleeping and working at her studio to make sure the nails were ready to rock for the event.
"I draw a lot of inspiration from Doechii’s style and outfits, particularly the textures, silhouettes, and color palettes in ways that both provide a cohesive addition to her look, but also complement her storytelling—whether it’s about the event, her style, or her overarching message," the artist tells Byrdie.

In the end, she crafted 18 matching sets so the dancers and artist could match during her performance. To get there, they went through several prototypes; Doechii was personally involved in the process while also trusting Rachel's creative vision.
"For the nails, I introduced a texture using flocking powder. It was applied in a dark gray half-moon shape on the nail bed and light gray stripes on the sides. I wanted to ensure the design felt cohesive with her outfit, particularly her Thom Browne look, so we included the brand’s iconic stripe down the center of the nail,' she explains. "At the same time, I was mindful of creating a design that wouldn’t compete with her performance outfit, especially since many performers would be wearing the same nail design."

If you know how long it takes to get your nails done with art, you know physically crafting 18 sets is a lot (not to mention all the ideation beforehand). But it was more than worth it.
"A huge thank you to the entire styling and glam team for collaborating so seamlessly, and to Doechii for her trust in the creative vision," she adds.
No, no. Thank you. For the art and the reminder that a nail appointment is the perfect excuse to throw on your OOO response.
