A beautiful place to camp with easy access to all Curecanti has to offer. Because western Colorado is experiencing a significant drought, the reservoir was so low that all the boat ramps were closed for the season and there were no showers. You could kayak or paddle board but need to clean up afterwards due to toxic algae. Bathrooms and campground were very clean and quiet despite Route 50.

The park is a mix of overnighters and full timers in RVs/trailers/tiny homes (and one school bus). They are transitioning to a tiny home residential community but that’s going to take a while. Gravel sites with a concrete pad for the picnic table. Pros Easy walk to Mill Creek and Grove of Titans trail head in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Walking to the trailhead depends on a seasonal bridge across the Smith River (otherwise you’ll need to drive up Howland Hill Rd (might be unpaved). RT hike from the park to Grove of Titans is 9 miles. Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Each site has a campfire ring and full hookups (also a dump station. the property). 24-hour coin-operated laundry (only $3 for wash AND dry). Hiouchi has a cafe and the market at the Chevron is good enough for camping cooking (sells firewood too). Highway 199 is not that loud (but we were not in the area closest to the road). Cons The park is very open so not a lot of shade and not really any privacy between sites. But, the weather here is so mild that you don’t need shade or AC to keep cool.

I’ll start with the bathhouse was nice and clean, as well as the campground. However the 2 older guys that run the guard/front desk were very misleading and rude. They made a group of 5 different campers all feel very unwelcome. I’d also like to add that i stayed for a month and tried to come back another time and they would not allow my slide in camper stay there, said it was against their rules. Which if you read the rules it DOES NOT state that. I’d like to say they never had a problem with my camper the first time. Otherwise campground is nice i hope they get some better staff!

Wonderful campground right on a cliff overlooking the St Lawrence bay. Nice, private sites with FHU. Reception staff were super helpful, even calling around to find the closest diesel station and recommending restaurants. Clean, well maintained laundry and bathrooms. Be sure to look at the map and pictures when reserving sites - some look like they’re on the cliff but don’t have a view. Would definitely stay here again.
