Origin and history of substantiation

substantiation(n.)

1760, "embodiment, act of giving substance to;" 1832, "the making good of a statement, the act of proving," noun of action from substantiate. An earlier noun was substantiality (late 15c., substancialite), "quality of being essential," from Latin substantialitas.
