How Many McDonald's Chicken Sandwich Options Are On The Menu?

A freshly-cooked burger from McDonald's will satisfy most appetites, but sometimes a chicken sandwich calls your name. Fried Southern-style for an extra crispy outside and tender inside, it can be just what you need when hunger strikes and you're in no mood for beef. Still, there are only so many menu options at McDonald's if you are craving a chicken sandwich, and most are riffing off the McCrispy.

In the U.S., folks currently have five choices when they arrive at the McDonald's drive-thru dreaming of a chicken sandwich. The McChicken is the OG, having debuted in 1980. It's the lightest option at 390 calories, but it's also the least expensive, considering you can usually score one for just $1 on the McValue menu. Then you have the McCrispy and its three partners in crime. The Spicy McCrispy offers customers a little heat with their meal, and both the McCrispy and its spicy cohort can be ordered deluxe-style with tomatoes and lettuce. Aside from McDonald's chicken nuggets, as of writing these are the only poultry choices at the Golden Arches. But, depending on time and location, that may look a bit different.

For now, there may only be five regular menu choices for a McDonald's chicken sandwich, but it was revealed on an earnings call in early 2025 that fans have been clamoring for the return of the Chicken Big Mac — and McDonald's plans to bring it back to the menu by the end of the year. A twist on arguably the most iconic burger in existence, it features two fried chicken patties instead of beef, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and special sauce on a sesame seed bun. It's slated to be a limited-time release once again, so you'll have to head to Mickey D's to get a taste, while it lasts.

Another returning fan-favorite chicken item isn't a chicken sandwich, but a wrap. McDonald's most requested menu item — the acclaimed Snack Wrap — is coming back in 2025, and the company anticipates it being as popular as ever. But that's not all, as  a once-discontinued McDonald's chicken menu item will be joining the Snack Wrap's return (though apparently in modified form). Chicken Selects, which were a nugget alternative that more closely resembled tenders than bite-sized nuggets, left the menu in 2013. While they may be rebooted under a different name, they still offer McDonald's patrons a solid option for chicken without the bun.
