Yeti Just Quietly Over-Engineered One of Grilling’s Most Overlooked Tools

The brand best known for keeping things cool has slowly crept into the grilling and cooking market with pans and griddles. Now it looks like accessories are next.

A grill press is the kind of tool most backyard cooks never think twice about.

But Yeti’s product strategy has always revolved around over-engineering seemingly mundane items to create goods that sit somewhere between a premium upgrade and a lifestyle status symbol.

And that’s exactly what the brand has done with the Yeti Stainless Steel Grill Press, a deceptively simple release that lands quietly amid a very loud stretch of product announcements that includes the new Tank 30 Beverage Tub, the Carbon Steel Griddle and a new Rambler 24oz Mug with DuraSip Ceramic Lining.

The grill press isn’t as splashy as any of those. But its existence might actually say more about where Yeti is headed than anything else the brand has released this season.

Conquering cookware

The Yeti Stainless Steel Grill Press is built from — as the name states plainly — stainless steel, with a stay-cool handle designed for use over direct heat. It’s sized to handle smash burgers, chicken thighs and thick-cut bacon without wobbling around the grate.

At $75, it sits at the premium end of the category. Serious Eats‘ grill press buying guide notes that most well-regarded cast iron options run $15–$35, making Yeti’s stainless version a deliberate step above the mainstream on both material and price.

The stainless construction gives it an edge in one specific way: it won’t rust if you forget to dry it, a real-world failure mode that sidelines plenty of cast iron presses.

It also heats quickly and stays lighter than comparable cast iron slabs, which matters when you’re pressing a smash burger with one hand and managing a spatula with the other.

But the hardware specs aren’t really the full story. The grill press is the latest, clearest signal that Yeti is serious about owning your entire outdoor cooking setup.

Back in January of 2024, Yeti acquired Butter Pat Industries — a maker of premium polished cast iron skillets — indicating its serious intention to wade into the cookware space.

Since then, it has introduced everything from a classic cast-iron skillet to more modern carbon-steel pans, and even a combination fire-and-grill kit. The grill press fills in another gap in that lineup and signals the brand isn’t done building out the category.

For a tool most people overlook entirely, that’s a real ask — but it’s consistent with how Yeti prices everything else it makes.

If you’ve already bought into the brand’s cookware ecosystem, it fits. If you’re not, $75 is a steep entry point for a press, though it’s very in line with other premium stainless steel options, like the version from Made In.

Either way, it’s hard to ignore what the product represents: Yeti is methodically building toward a complete backyard kitchen, and it’s not cutting corners to get there.
