7 Best Silk Pillowcases, Tested & Approved by Glamour Editors
As a wellness editor, I’ve found that upgrading to one of the best silk pillowcases is a small change that makes a noticeable difference in my sleep. Naturally breathable, temperature-regulating, and hypoallergenic, silk is frequently recommended by dermatologists and hairstylists alike for reducing frizz, breakage, and the appearance of fine lines. Unlike cotton pillowcases, which can absorb moisture, silk helps hair and skin retain hydration overnight while feeling cool to the touch and being gentle on sensitive skin. While you can incorporate silk products into your wind-down routine in many forms (including sheets and pajamas), a pillowcase is the simplest—and often most rewarding—place to start.
Of course, not all are created equal. Over two years, more than 20 Glamour contributors (myself included) tested dozens of options, sleeping on each for at least a month and washing them regularly. The TL;DR? Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase remains our top pick for its high-quality silk and durability, followed by the under-$30 J Jimoo Mulberry Silk Pillowcase.
Below, shop the ones we tested, including ones for curly hair, acne-prone skin, restless sleepers, and more—plus answers from dermatologists to your most frequently asked questions.

- Worth noting: Pricey (but HSA/FSA eligible)
The Slip silk pillowcase has earned its cult-favorite status for good reason. Made from high-quality mulberry silk, it’s a consistent pick among both editors and dermatologists like Joshua Zeichner, MD, for reducing frizz, protecting skin, and extending the life of a blowout. I own three and treasure them—the silk has the beautiful luster of a pearl and feels soft, supple, and cool without the overly slick finish some others have, almost like a butterfly wing. They keep my curly hair intact overnight, and the smooth texture, breathable weight, and elegant zip closure make it stand out in both comfort and function. While care instructions recommend hand-washing, I’ve had success using a garment bag in the washer on a cold, gentle cycle and drying on low heat. Of the silk pillowcases tested for this story, this one was least prone to long-term wrinkling. The zip closure helps pull the silk fabric taut once it’s on the pillow, giving it a cleaner, more polished look. And though they’re pricier than some others, you can use your HSA or FSA to purchase the Slip pillowcase.
Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle says:
“I love that the brand has so many gorgeous designs and the colors really pop—just looking at the glowing green on my bed makes me happy. Like most pillowcases it’s prone to drool marks, but I wash it frequently enough that it doesn’t bother me.”
Glamour contributor Danielle Sinay says:
“My Slip silk pillowcase has saved my skin and hair—I never wake up with red, aggravated skin anymore, and my blow-dries actually last for days,” says Sinay, who even packs it in her carry-on. “It’s so, so soft and silky, and it feels cool and lightweight on my skin. I’ve never had a problem with it getting wrinkly or losing shape in the wash.”

Best Budget: J Jimoo Mulberry Silk Pillowcase
- What we love: Inexpensive but high-quality; no external branding; durable; soft
- Worth noting: Shows stains easily
The J Jimoo Mulberry Silk Pillowcase is a consistent bestseller in Glamour gift guides and it’s easy to see why. Despite its under-$30 price, the budget-friendly pick rivals luxury options that cost triple that amount. Made from 100% mulberry silk, it features a sleek zip closure, comes in a wide range of colors, and feels slightly less slippery than pricier versions, which many testers preferred. Its understated, logo-free design and versatile color palette make it a smart choice if you want something simple and unfussy (or are trying to find a low-key yet still luxe gift for women or gift for men). And if you’re looking to test the benefits of silk without making a big investment, this is the one to start with.
Glamour commerce editor Jake Henry Smith says:
“This pillowcase is cool to the touch and truly soft—better than many of the expensive options I’ve tested,” says Smith. “I honestly can’t tell the difference between this and pillowcases that cost three times as much. I love the zipper closure and it’s less slippery than others so I don’t feel like I’m sliding around all night. My only gripe? It holds stains easily—but that’s silk in general.” (Just don’t wear a hair mask to bed.) “The lack of branding and the zipper closure will appeal to guys who like to keep things simple, while colors like taupe, black, white, navy, and olive fit in with masculine bedding—although it comes in many other colors too,” says Smith.

Best for Cooling: Quince 100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase
- What we love: Tons of colors; relatively affordable price; yearlong return window; wrinkle-resistant
- Worth noting: Machine cycles can dull sheen over time
This colorful silk pillowcase has won over multiple Glamour editors thanks to its combination of quality, comfort, and affordability. Made from 22-momme silk, it strikes a nice balance between softness and durability and comes in 12 vibrant shades and three sizes (standard, queen, and king). The zippered closure also keeps the case snug and helps reduce wrinkles for a neater, more polished look. I tested this one and was impressed by its quality—though it’s a tad more slippery than I prefer, it was still cooling, pretty wrinkle-resistant, and I love the price point.
Glamour contributor Andrea Navarro says:
“I tend to get bedhead since my hair is naturally curly, but this 22-momme silk pillowcase keeps everything in one place, tangle-free and crease-free as I sleep,” says Navarro. “At $40, it’s great value for the money (and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the brand has a 365-day return window).”

Best for Skin: Brooklinen Mulberry Silk Pillowcase
- What we love: Luxurious look; gentle on skin; stain-resistant
- Worth noting: Slightly rougher feel than softer silk options
Brooklinen’s OEKO-TEX–certified silk case adds a polished, elevated touch to your bed, with a smooth, slightly structured finish that holds up beautifully over time. Unlike many silk options, it resists staining and maintains its sheen even after multiple washes. I appreciate its elegant envelope closure that neatly conceals the pillow edge, its subtle sheen, and how gentle and cooling it feels on my acne-prone skin. The frictionless surface helps protect my skin from seasonal dryness and prevents tugging and fine lines so I wake up looking refreshed and hydrated.
Architectural Digest commerce editor Audrey Lee says:
“I love the luxurious feel of a silk pillowcase, and Brooklinen’s are standouts in my robust bedding collection. Their silk scrunchies are a staple in my morning and night routines as well,” says Lee. “The material has a lovely sheen, and it feels incredibly gentle on my skin and hair. Available in solids and patterns, these pillowcases still look great after several washes and run-ins with stains.”

Best for Frizz: Lilysilk Terse Envelope Silk Pillowcase
- What we love: Plenty of colors and patterns; gentle on curly hair
- Worth noting: Loses some sheen and may wrinkle more after months of washing
Lilysilk’s 19-momme pillowcase is a solid entry-level option, especially for those new to silk or on a budget. Its lighter weight gives it a soft, breathable feel that helps reduce frizz and keeps skin comfortable overnight. Two testers with curly hair found it particularly effective at preserving their styles and preventing sweat buildup during the night. While it holds up well against wrinkles initially, we found that, over time, it may start to lose some of its sheen and show minor stains. Still, it remains remarkably soft even after months of use, making it a dependable starter silk pillowcase that won’t break the bank.
Glamour social video editor Yanise Cabrera says:
“I just blow-dried my hair the night before and it managed to stay bouncy in the morning! Also, my neck didn’t sweat in the middle of the night—that’s a huge pro,” says Cabrera, who has curly hair. “Surprisingly, it’s not very wrinkly. I ended up laying it flat to dry, and there weren’t many wrinkles.”
Schwartz agrees: “Of all the cheaper silk pillowcases I tested, this one gets the least wrinkled and helped preserve my hair overnight—I have curly hair that I flatiron straight. However, after about six months of use, it did start to get more wrinkled after washes, and it has begun to lose its sheen and accrue some stains. It might be time to replace this pillowcase. That said, it still feels as sumptuously soft as it did on day one.”

Best Variety: Blissy Mulberry Silk Pillowcase
- What we love: Lots of colors; affordable; durable construction; high-quality silk
- Worth noting: Wrinkles easily
Blissy’s 22-momme silk pillowcase has earned a loyal following among Glamour staffers and online reviewers alike. It strikes a nice balance between softness and price, and with over a dozen color options, it’s one of the most customizable picks on the market. Like Slip, it features a zippered closure that keeps the case snug and relatively wrinkle-free, but we found Blissy wrinkled more easily than most, so you might want to give it a quick steam or tuck it behind a decorative pillow if appearance matters. After extended use, we also found the silk can lose a bit of its original sheen, and one tester flagged that the zipper pull can feel sharp if left exposed.
Glamour contributor Brie Schwartz says:
“I’ve used my Blissy pillowcase for more than three years and it’s withstood countless washes. While it did begin to tatter and lose its luster over time, it was still supersoft and cool to the touch,” says Schwartz.

Best for Beginners: Fishers Finery Mulberry Silk Pillowcase
- What we love: Relatively inexpensive; durable; no external branding
- Worth noting: Slightly heavier fabric, which may feel warm to hot sleepers
If you’re looking for a step up in quality silk pillowcases without going all the way to triple-digit prices, Fishers Finery is a solid middle ground. This 25-momme mulberry silk pillowcase has a noticeable weight and softness that helps it withstand frequent washing and nightly use. While the brand also offers lower (19-momme) and higher (30-momme) options, this midrange version was our testers’ favorite for its balance of feel, durability, and price.
The slightly heavier weight gives it a luxe, hotel-like feel without being overly slick or delicate. Ultimately, it’s a great pick if you’re upgrading from a basic silk pillowcase or trying silk for the first time and want to start with something more elevated.
Glamour contributor Lindsay Schallon says:
“After using this 25-momme pure mulberry silk pillowcase, I get why people invest in more luxurious fabrics,” says Schallon. “Not only does sleeping on this feel like the equivalent of staying the night at a fancy hotel, but waking up in the morning is significantly better because I hardly have to touch my wavy hair. The fact that my skin feels more revitalized is just the cherry on top.”

Frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of silk pillowcases?
- Clearer skin: As you shift position throughout the night, your skin rubs against your pillowcase causing friction, says Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. “Friction can cause skin folding and contribute to low-grade inflammation and wrinkles. Silk is a soft, natural fiber that allows the skin to glide. Plus, it’s light and breathable to minimize the amount of sweat that builds up on the skin.” Basically, less rubbing and beauty-product absorption that you can get from other fabrics like cotton can help if you have sensitive skin. Silk, derived from domesticated silkworms, might even make your beauty routine more effective because your products won’t rub off as easily.
- Healthier hair: “Unlike cotton, silk absorbs less. This means silk helps you retain both the moisture and natural oils of the hair. This prevents hair dryness and promotes hydration and shine,” says Nicole Salame, MD, FAAD, a double board-certified general and cosmetic dermatologist. “Silk is also hypoallergenic, making it an excellent option for those with sensitive scalps or eczema. Its cooling effect can also reduce sweat, which can further cause scalp irritation and damage.” Silk pillowcases prevent bedhead by reducing friction on your hair as you sleep, “decreasing split ends, frizz, breakage, and tangles,” Dr. Salame continues. Every single one of our testers will tell you that if you’re looking for a pillowcase to fix frizzy hair, silk is the way to go—and a few noticed it helped prevent night sweats.
- Less buildup of allergens: The fiber is naturally hypoallergenic and prevents the buildup of dust mites, fungus, mold, and other allergens. While the effects of silk pillowcases on skin and hair are still under-researched, a few studies, like this 2019 report, have found promising results. Empirically, though, the material’s benefits are easy to see—just read the reviews for the silk pillowcases our team has tested and endorsed.
What’s momme count?
Momme (pronounced “mom” or “mom-may”) is a unit used to measure the weight and density of silk. The higher the momme, the more silk threads—spun from silkworm cocoons—are woven into the fabric, making it denser, shinier, and more durable. It’s similar to thread count in cotton; a higher number generally means a thicker, more substantial fabric that feels more luxurious and lasts longer.
Most experts recommend 19 momme (soft, relatively affordable) to 25 momme (top-of-the-line, more expensive). Nineteen momme is lightweight and breathable (and usually the most affordable), while 22 to 25 momme offers more durability, sheen, and density. You can go as low as 16 momme, but there are options above 20 momme in the sub-$30 range.
Is 30 momme worth it? We don’t have anything that high on this list because, frankly, it’s hard to tell the difference when the count goes above 25. If you have especially sensitive skin, prefer extra-smooth material, or want to treat yourself to some of the highest-quality silk available, feel free to buy one. (Fishers Finery makes one that offers a great overall value.) For the highest-quality material, look for mulberry silk; the fibers are longer and more uniform, making the fabric smoother and longer-lasting.
Do silk pillowcases really help with acne?
Although one 2017 study found that silk had a “positive influence” on back acne, which suggests that it might be helpful for breakouts elsewhere, there isn’t enough evidence to prove that silk can help with acne. At this time, more research is necessary to draw any conclusions.
What are the differences between silk and satin pillowcases?
Silk is a fiber, while satin is a weave—a particularly smooth-surfaced weave. Silk can be woven into satin fabric; artificial fibers like polyester can also be woven into satin. However, the phrase satin pillowcase is most often used to denote products that are woven from some material other than silk.
Polyester satin, an ultrasmooth fabric that mimics silk satin, provides many of the same friction-reducing benefits for skin and for straight and curly hair, as confirmed by our in-house testing. Man-made materials are a cost-effective and more easily washable alternative to silk pillowcases at the more expensive end of the spectrum. Silk and artificial satin can cost about the same amount, depending on the brand. If you’d rather sleep on natural fibers or want the hypoallergenic benefits of silk, stick to the real thing.
How do you clean and take care of your silk pillowcases?
“Washing or changing your pillowcase at least once a week ensures you are consistently removing bacteria, dirt, oil, hair products, skin care products, dust, and other allergens that accumulate over the week,” Dr. Salame says. “If you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, washing or changing your pillowcases every two to three days reduces the oils, bacteria, dust, and other particles that build up on the pillowcase and can be the first step to improving your skin. If you are someone who sweats overnight or uses extensive hair products, washing or changing your pillowcase every one to two days is also recommended.”
Wondering how to wash silk pillowcases? Make sure to read the product’s specific care instructions. Some can go in the washing machine on a cold, gentle cycle (ideally in a mesh delicates bag), while others require hand-washing in lukewarm or cold water. Air-drying is best, since heat can weaken the fibers and cause shrinkage, though many brands allow low-heat tumble-drying if needed. To keep them looking fresh, you can steam or lightly iron on a low setting to remove wrinkles.
As for longevity, silk pillowcases are delicate but surprisingly durable when cared for properly. Expect them to last for years, especially if you choose a higher momme count, which makes the weave denser and stronger. Most testers noticed small changes—like loss of sheen, extra wrinkling, or stains—around the six-month mark, but the pillowcases remained soft and usable well beyond that.
How we tested pillowcases
How did you test?
Over the course of a year and a half, over 25 Glamour editors tested dozens of silk pillowcases, sleeping on each one for at least a month and washing it regularly to see how it held up over time. We assessed everything from softness, sheen, and comfort to durability after repeated laundering, noting how each case performed night after night and whether the fit, feel, or finish changed with use.
What did you look for?
We focused on several key factors:
- Momme: A measure of silk’s weight and density—like thread count for cotton. Most pillowcases fall between 19 and 25 momme; a higher momme feels softer and smoother, while a lower momme offers a bit more grip.
- Color: Darker tones and prints hide stains best, since silk tends to discolor easily.
- Closure: Zippers help the case hold its shape and resist wrinkling, while envelope styles are roomier but wrinkle more easily.
- Price: Higher cost doesn’t always mean higher quality. We found plenty of under-$50 options that performed as well as luxe versions, though premium models may last longer and feel more refined.
What other pillowcases did you test?
Since our editors have tried dozens, not all of them could make our final list, which we’re routinely updating. But if you haven’t found the exact right option yet, these may be worth a look.
- Lunya Washable Silk Good in Bed Pillowcase ($88): If you want ultimate luxurious feel, Lunya is a brand known for its washable silk sleepwear. Although soft, our testers found its pillowcase slightly rougher against the skin compared to other options we tried, especially at this price point. It held up well in the wash and resisted wrinkling, but the brand doesn’t disclose the momme weight, which makes it harder to compare directly. It also comes only in white and a single queen size, which may fit loosely on standard pillows and limits flexibility.
- Parachute Silk Pillowcase ($99): This 25-momme mulberry silk pillowcase feels exceptionally smooth and cool, and testers noticed less frizz, fewer flyaways, and softer-looking skin after use. It also held up well in the wash without snagging. However, it’s one of the pricier options we tried and comes in just two sizes (standard and king) and three colors, with no queen option—while other picks delivered similar results with more flexibility.
- Kitsch Satin Pillowcase ($20): This budget-friendly satin option mimics some of silk’s friction-reducing benefits and is easy to care for, resisting wrinkles and pilling even after multiple washes. However, it’s made from polyester—not natural silk—and felt noticeably more slippery to some testers, occasionally shifting around on the pillow overnight. While it’s a solid, low-cost alternative, it doesn’t offer the same breathability or long-term durability as real silk.
- Hill House Home Sisi Silk Pillowcase ($98): Best known for its Nap Dress, Hill House also makes a 22-momme mulberry silk pillowcase that testers found especially soft, cooling, and great for keeping hair smooth. The piping and monogram option add a polished touch. In the end, we found other options stood up better to frequent use and offered a wider range of colors.
- Lost Pattern Silk Pillowcase ($88): Made from a silk-spandex blend with a Tencel back, this hybrid has a thicker, less slippery feel than pure silk while still being gentle on hair and skin. Testers liked it as a happy medium between glossy silk and cotton, with playful details like piping, embroidery, and gift-worthy packaging. It is now, however, made of 100% silk and comes at a higher price point.
- Mommesilk Silk Pillowcase ($45): A 22-momme mulberry silk pillowcase with a plush, velvety feel that held up beautifully even after repeated washes. Testers liked the concealed side zipper, which made laundry day less of a hassle. The only caveat: Sizing runs small, so it may be worth going up if you use fuller pillows.
- FluffCo Silk Pillowcase ($99): A newer entrant to the silk pillowcase market, FluffCo impressed testers with its thicker 22-momme silk, which helped minimize frizz in colder months—especially for straight hair. It’s also machine-washable, making upkeep easier. Downsides include limited colors (just white and silver), a looser fit, and some wrinkling after washing.
- Drowsy Silk Pillowcase ($99): Thick and luxurious with standout color options, this 22-momme pillowcase withstood repeated machine washes. Testers noticed real benefits for both hair and skin, and some preferred its less slippery feel compared to glossier options. It does wrinkle more easily than some, and details like a large interior tag and visible branding weren’t universally loved.
- Bedsure Mulberry Silk Pillowcase ($19): This affordable 19-momme pick doesn’t have the weight or sheen of high-end options, but it still impressed testers with its cooling feel and frizz-reducing benefits. It’s available in three sizes and multiple colors, making it an easy entry point if you’re new to silk. The trade-off: It lost its sheen faster than pricier pillowcases.
- Branché Charmeuse Silk Pillowcase ($105): With a high-gloss finish and rich color range, this 22-momme pillowcase feels every bit as luxe as its price. Testers noted excellent smoothing benefits for both skin and hair, though it wrinkles more than some competitors. A small external tag on the back was also mentioned, but most didn’t find it distracting.
