“The Kid” (1921)
During a 2025 episode of his “The Video Archives Podcast” in which he reviewed Charlie Chaplin’s “The Gold Rush,” Tarantino revealed that his favorite movie from the silent film master is “The Kid.” Chaplin’s first full-length feature as a director, the slapstick comedy stars the auteur in his iconic Tramp character, as he adopts and raises an orphaned child (Jackie Coogan) and struggles with what to do when he encounters the mother years later. In the podcast, Chaplin praised the film for its poignant climax, calling it “heartwrenching.”
