It's Time to Build.

About us

Founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (known as "a16z") is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic: We invest in seed to late-stage technology companies, across the consumer, enterprise, bio/healthcare, crypto, fintech and games spaces. a16z is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial company building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. The firm is led by general partners, many of whom are former founders/operators, CEOs, or CTOs of successful technology companies, and who have domain expertise ranging from biology to crypto to distributed systems to security to marketplaces to financial services. We aim to connect entrepreneurs, investors, executives, engineers, academics, industry experts, and others in the technology ecosystem. We have built a network of experts including technical and executive talent; top media and marketing resources; Fortune 500/Global 2000 companies; as well as other technology decision makers, influencers, and key opinion leaders. a16z uses this network as part of our commitment to help our portfolio companies grow their business, so our operating teams provide entrepreneurs with access to expertise and insights across the entire spectrum of company building. https://a16z.com/portfolio/ https://a16z.com/podcasts/ https://a16z.com/videos/ http://a16z.com/subscribe See Disclosures: https://a16z.com/disclosures/

Today, we’re launching Foundry Management, formed by Andreessen Horowitz and Atlas Holdings LLC to help founders build AI companies inside the industrial world. The hardest constraint in physical-world industries is often not the technology, but getting close enough to mission-critical work to understand what should be built. That understanding lives inside operating businesses, in equipment, workflows, and the knowledge of the people who keep them running. Foundry gives you a place to begin. We recruit a small, select group of some of the top technologists and give them premiere access to the Atlas portfolio, representing $26B in annual revenue across steel, metals/mining, automotive supply chains, energy, and logistics. You'll work alongside the operators and management at these businesses to build products and technologies that unleash AI in these industrial contexts. When it demonstrates the potential for an independent business, a16z and Atlas will support its creation, with you leading it as founder and CEO. You don't need to arrive with a finished idea. You do need technical depth, curiosity about how industry works, and the ambition to build something people will depend on. There's a great deal of the future left to build inside the industries already around us. Come build it with us: talent@foundrymgt.com

  • We're excited to lead doxxnet’s Series A. AI has made it dramatically easier to collect information about people, and agents acting on our behalf expand the surface area we need to protect. doxx.net gives people and their agents a parallel, private network they can build on: browse privately, transfer files directly, connect devices and agents into encrypted meshes, and communicate peer to peer. Barrett Lyon helped pioneer the modern DDoS defense industry with Prolexic, and has spent more than two decades building networks and defending them against attackers. Welcome Barrett Lyon and the doxxnet team! By Joel de la Garza and Martin Casado

Today, were announcing $38 million in Series A funding, led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Animo Ventures and Focal.vc, and the launch of the open beta of doxx.net. We're introducing Agentic Defined Networking, a way for people and their agents to create, configure, and operate private networks built around their own rules.  The internet treats people and their AI agents like data sources. Your traffic moves through infrastructure you do not control. Your messages, calls, and files typically pass through servers you do not own. Your privacy depends on someone else’s policies. So we built a different fabric. It’s a parallel Internet, it’s a communications app (calls, chat, groups, video, etc), a privacy network, a playground for agents, a global mesh, with covert communications protocols, alt-domains, private cert signing, and everything encrypted on many layers. Oh, and we built it physically, we're not on rented hardware, this is the real deal. You or your agent can drive everything via apps, API, etc. The public internet was built for reachability and billing. Then we turned it into a surveillance machine. AI agents are about to become some of the heaviest users of that machine—reading documents, calling APIs, moving data, and acting on our behalf at a scale no human can match. They need a better network than the one we inherited. The open beta is live. Visit doxx.net, or have your agent visit config.doxx.net to explain it to you and get started.

We're excited to co-lead Armadin's Series B. After this summer’s cyber incidents at frontier AI labs, CISOs face growing pressure to secure their companies across applications, cloud, identity, and internal networks. Armadin’s AI autonomous security platform turns offense into something defenders control, from the first Hyperattack. Built on decades of frontline adversary tradecraft, its agentic attacker swarm reasons, plans, and adapts like a real adversary. The platform learns from every attack and environment, allowing security teams to focus on fixing real problems. We believe there’s no better team to take this on than Kevin Mandia, Travis Lanham, Evan Peña, and David Slater. Kevin founded Mandiant, the firm that defined modern incident response. Kevin and the team have spent their careers staying a step ahead of attackers, and now they’re building the platform to help every security team do the same. More in link below. • Tech is everywhere and in everything. Tech has steadily compounded earnings growth, albeit off a lower base, much more so relative to the field. Since 2023, however, it’s fair to say that tech is the earnings growth story, contributing ~76% of the SP500’s total earnings growth in 2026 (as of late August).
