October is American Pharmacists Month, and we're taking a moment to recognize the compounding pharmacists who do something most pharmacies can't: make the medication the patient actually needs. When a commercially available drug falls short, whether it's the dose, the form, an allergen, or a shortage, compounding pharmacists find a way. That's not a workaround. That's the point. Thank you to every compounding pharmacist and technician showing up for patients every day.

About us
We're the voice for pharmacy compounding and the advocate for thousands of compounding professionals and their patients. Our members are more than 500 businesses, including compounding pharmacists and technicians in both 503A and 503B settings, as well as prescribers, educators, researchers, and suppliers. In traditional compounding, pharmacists create a customized medication, most often from pure ingredients, for an individual patient pursuant to a prescription. Pharmacists’ ability to compound medications from pure ingredients is authorized in federal law and for good reason: Manufactured drugs don’t come in strengths and dosage forms that are right for everyone, and prescribers need to be able to prescribe customized medications when, in their judgment, a manufactured drug is not the best course of therapy for a human or animal patient. Every day, APC members play a critical role in patients’ lives, preparing essential, custom medications for a range of health conditions, including autism, oncology, dermatology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, women’s health, animal health, and others.

Peptides, peptides, peptides. We’ve spent a lot of time talking about the regulatory side of peptides. Now let’s talk about the clinical side. Our upcoming peptide webinar features Jim LaValle, RPh, CCN, a nationally recognized clinical pharmacist and expert in integrative and precision health. Jim will take a deep dive into the six peptides recently recommended by PCAC for inclusion on the 503A Bulks List, including what the science tells us, how they’re being used clinically, and the considerations compounders should understand. If you want to hear about peptides from someone who really knows the clinical science, this is the webinar to attend. Register here: https://hubs.la/Q04yDZ1n0

APC has launched ScriptSafe, a new member benefit that makes pharmacy certification for online and phone payments faster, simpler and more affordable. Using credentials pharmacies already hold — state licensure, DEA registration and NPI — ScriptSafe returns certification decisions within 10 business days, compared to the 3-9 months some pharmacies report elsewhere, and monitors those credentials year-round. Congratulations to Joseph Navarra, owner of Town Total Compounding Center in Woodbury, New York, recipient of the 2026 George and Lucy Malmberg Compounding Advocacy Champion Award, presented at Compounders on Capitol Hill. Navarra earned the honor for a form of advocacy that doesn't always get recognized: opening his pharmacy doors to curious reporters and showing them what compliant compounding looks like. Joe has given dozens of interviews and tours — including appearances on CNN and ABC News, with a segment alongside Dr. Sanjay Gupta — each one a chance to show the public what safe, professional compounding looks like. Presenting the award, Lucy Malmberg said showing people what good compounding looks like is one of the most effective forms of advocacy there is.
