AMD reposted this
It’s been an eventful few weeks, and yesterday was another momentous day. Thrilled to share that AMD has agreed to acquire World Labs, a truly exceptional AI research and model company led by my friend Fei-Fei Li. We share an ambition to accelerate AI technology and adoption for the good of humanity. That means bringing insights from next-generation models and emerging workloads together with deep co-design and optimization across hardware, software and systems. We also believe in an open AI ecosystem that gives customers choice across models and compute platforms, and this acquisition will allow us to expand our contributions to that ecosystem. I’ve always been a huge fan of Fei-Fei’s pioneering work in AI, and I’m incredibly excited about what our teams will accomplish together.
Cofounder/CEO, World Labs; AI Researcher & Professor, Stanford University; Co-Director, Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute; Author (“The Worlds I See”)
World Labs is joining AMD. This is a huge moment for World Labs, our team, and for me. I wanted to take a moment to share what this means and why I’m so excited for this next chapter – read more in my Substack linked below. The research and technical breakthroughs we have achieved since our founding in 2024 have given us a clear vision for AI’s potential to solve problems in the spatial and physical world. To accelerate into this future requires scaling our efforts, scaling our reach, and getting closer to the hardware. We began a deep technical partnership with AMD last year, starting with model training and inference optimization on AMD GPUs. As our teams worked together, we realized it would be a natural fit to bring together our AI ecosystem of software and hardware, foundation models, and applications. I will join AMD as an Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, working directly with CEO Dr. Lisa Su, Justin Johnson and Ben Mildenhall to continue leading the World Labs team as it joins AMD to form a world leading frontier research organization. Together, we are committed to building out an end-to-end open AI ecosystem spanning hardware, software, platforms, and widely accessible open models. https://lnkd.in/g8gQ54aj

Agentic AI has the potential to change how we spend our time. AMD CTO Mark Papermaster shares how autonomous agents and sub-agents can take on multiple tasks in parallel, helping free people to focus more of their time on the higher-value aspects of their work. Listen to his perspective on what agentic AI could mean for the future of productivity.

AI is not just changing what CPUs need to do. It’s changing how they are designed. AMD Senior VP, Corporate Fellow and Chief Architect of AMD CPUs Michael T Clark joins Mark Papermaster to discuss how AMD engineers are using AI across feature design, physical design and verification to evaluate millions of design possibilities faster and focus on the options that matter most. Hear how engineers can spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time applying their expertise to the decisions that shape what comes next: https://bit.ly/4h7Jig1
