Meet Dana Workman of Grass Powered Poultry. Dana and her husband, Jesse, started selling pasture-raised chicken at a farmers market in 2016 as a side gig. Today, they operate a full-time, family farm, raising 100% grass-fed beef, pasture-raised poultry and pork while prioritizing regenerative practices. Through their on-farm store, online orders, and home delivery, Grass Powered Poultry helps connect families with nutrient-dense, sustainably raised food. Dana and Jesse collaborate with more than 10 local farms to share resources, coordinate deliveries, and cooperatively market products. When a statewide food access program abruptly ended following funding cuts, the farm lost a significant portion of their annual revenue. A $10,000 Brighter Future Fund grant from American Farmland Trust helped Dana respond to this disruption. They were able to hire a business consultant to help strengthen the farm’s financial systems, expand home delivery service, and build a regional food access program in partnership with the local community. For Dana and Jesse, this work is about more than replacing lost revenue. It is an opportunity to build a stronger farm, support neighboring producers, and create a more resilient local food system rooted in collaboration and community. Hooray! Applegate has been named a finalist in the 2026 Sustainable Food Awards!   The award recognizes our bold achievement to source beef for our all-beef hot dogs from certified regenerative land––work that helped transition 10.8 million acres of farmland to certified regenerative.   We were nominated in the sustainability pioneer category, highlighting businesses that undertake “groundbreaking steps to advance sustainability in the food industry.”   We like the sound of that.....   The winner will be announced June 18 in Amsterdam at this year’s European Sustainable Food Summit.   Fingers crossed!   https://lnkd.in/eueitES4 Ecovia Intelligence #SustainableFoodAwards #RegenerativeFarming #SustainableFoodSummit #Farmland #CertifiedRegenerative

Our Applegate crew had a great time at #IDDBA2026! We loved connecting and sharing how we continue to lead the way for natural and organic meat. The highlight? Building a more sustainable food system starts from the ground up. That’s why we’re partnering with Practical Farmers of Iowa.
