At The Pursuit of Home event on Martha's Vineyard, we brought together leaders from across sectors to tackle systemic barriers to home and land ownership. Continuing our spotlight series with S. Kathryn Allen, Esq. and Joanna Trotter, who brought both clarity and heart to one of the most pressing barriers facing families today: tangled titles. As Co-President of Answer Title, Kathryn led our “unTangling Titles: Let’s Get Free!” session with the kind of expertise that only comes from being deep in this work every day. She took an issue that often feels overwhelming and made it urgent, understandable, and actionable. She showed how tangled titles prevent families from leveraging their homes, passing down wealth, or protecting their legacy—and reminded us these challenges are the result of policy choices, not personal failures. Guiding the conversation was Joanna Trotter, Executive Director for Global Philanthropy at JPMorganChase, whose expertise in community development and equitable investment brought incredible depth to the discussion. With her thoughtful framing, Joanna connected the technical to the human and underscored why this work is essential for building community wealth and wellbeing. Together, Kathryn and Joanna grounded us in both the urgency of the problem and the possibility of solutions, while JPMorgan Chase's partnership with The Pursuit of Home demonstrated the kind of cross-sector commitment this work requires. Tyson President of the National Community Stabilization Trust, opened our event with a keynote that was equal parts truth-telling and storytelling. The power of home. Our multi-sensory installation was more than just an exhibit—it was a space for people to connect with the deeply personal stakes of home and land preservation. Born from the vision of BLK GRVTY Preservation Table and brought to life through the brilliant creative design of April De Simone and The Practice of Democracy, this installation transformed how people experienced the urgency of our work. What happened here: • Stories came alive through immersive experiences that connected individual narratives to systemic challenges • Attendees moved through the space at their own pace, finding moments of reflection and recognition • The abstract became tangible as people saw, felt, and understood the impact of losing home in new ways • Real-time connections formed as the installation sparked conversations between strangers who became collaborators These images capture people engaging not just with information, but with the emotional and cultural dimensions of what home means. This is why storytelling and experience matter alongside policy and finance—because this work is about more than transactions. It's about legacy, belonging, and the right to place.
