As our Fellow Grace Mennerick transitions to a new position as the regional food education coordinator for our Central region, she wanted to share some lessons from her time with the Fellows: https://ow.ly/jWw050ZnpNY Through her numerous account visits and events, she always returned to how her cohort made the experience all the more rewarding. In addition to peer-to-peer support, she found mentors along the way, walking away from the Fellowship with a love for pickling and lessons in patience and joy. Although connecting with over 13,000 students in 2 years is impressive, Grace thinks that the stories we tell are even more impactful, "One of our most important responsibilities as Fellows is storytelling: the story of Bon Appétit, our own food journeys, and the compelling stories we pick up from each campus. [...] The events and education are important, but the stories show how we build relationships, and those relationships change people’s livelihoods, and their lives."

We are so proud of our team at the Obama Presidential Center. This has been the opening of a lifetime for so many of our people (including our CEO Fedele Bauccio), and we love hearing their stories, like this one from Manny Uribe. Bravo Manny and everyone who has helped us get to this point! Teamwork really does make the dream work.
I am incredibly proud and grateful to be part of the Obama Presidential Center project. President Obama’s DACA program opened doors and created opportunities that significantly shaped my life and career. Those opportunities eventually led me to the privilege of cooking for President Obama and many other remarkable leaders, and now to contributing to a project that will have a lasting impact on Chicago and future generations. Seeing my name displayed among the tribute honoring those who helped build the Obama Presidential Center is a deeply meaningful and humbling moment. It represents far more than professional recognition, it reflects a journey built through sacrifice, opportunity, perseverance, and the support of countless people along the way. I am honored to play a small role in bringing this historic vision to life. Thank you Bon Appétit Management Company for the continued growth! #ObamaPresidentialCenter #DACA #Chicago #Community #Leadership #Gratitude #Legacy

Creating menus for all of our guests isn't always easy, but our chefs consistently rise to the occasion to ensure that our cafés are welcoming, inclusive spaces. 🤝 We take a broad, inclusive view of what it means to feel well. We know every guests comes with their own knowledge, needs, and goals. From getting embedded in the community and collaborating with on-campus groups to creating consistent communication pathways for guests, our teams operate where hospitality & inclusion meet. As our Vice President of Food Education and Wellness Terri Brownlee, MPH, RD, LDN, shared, "Transparency and accuracy are a form of hospitality. We need to create a space where all are welcome, and they can find foods that meet their dietary needs." Here's how we're making the dream of menus for all a reality: https://lnkd.in/eGasda-P

The valedictorian's speech at Santa Clara University highlighted one of our long-standing employees, Cecelia Carrasco, whose innate sense of hospitality has brightened the days of countless students for over 25 years. Bravo, Cecelia!
What does the world need? The world needs more people like Cecelia." There may be no greater compliment than being recognized by the students you serve. During the Santa Clara University Commencement ceremony, Valedictorian Charlie Silver honored #BonAppetitMgt at SCU Dining cashier, Cecelia Carrasco, in his speech, recognizing the extraordinary impact she has on the campus community. "She treats everyone like a friend before they are given a reason to. She remembers our names, asks how things are going, asks about our families—and actually means it." As Charlie shared, Cecelia reminds us that creating belonging isn't accidental. It happens because someone chooses to make every person feel seen, valued, and welcome. He closed with a message that brought the audience to applause: "Somebody decided we were worth their time, without making us prove it. Take that with you... Find the person doing the math to calculate whether they belong and answer that question for them before they leave and ask it out loud." Cecelia was also recognized this year with Santa Clara University's Associated Student Government Michele Bazanson Award for Empowered Leadership and Agency—an honor that perfectly reflects the impact she has on students every day. Congratulations, Cecelia, and thank you for reminding us that hospitality isn't just about serving food—it's about making people feel like they belong. The world truly does need more people like you. A special thank you to Valedictorian Charlie Silver for sharing such a meaningful tribute and reminding all of us of the power of kindness, community, and belonging. Thank you to #SantaClaraUniversity for creating a community where students are challenged not only to excel academically, but also lead with compassion, integrity, and purpose. And to the Class of 2026—congratulations!

"Many queer workers, particularly trans and intersectional individuals, are disproportionately affected by food insecurity. Even as many queer people are in low-wage food roles, they often lack safe and supportive workplaces where they can bring their full identity to work without fear or discrimination. There also has historically been limited representation of queer voices in broader food industry conversations, [...] leaving gaps in mentorship, visibility, and industry support." Vanessa Parish, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Queer Food Foundation (QFF), shared this striking statement with us in an interview for LGBTQ+ Pride Month when talking about the systemic barriers queer individuals face in the food system. This project combines so many things we love: collaboration, innovation, and of course, reducing food waste. Viva the biomaterials revolution!
“The biomaterials revolution is coming and we all need to be prepared to be able to deliver materials that are healthier, that can biodegrade naturally and then still perform the same way concrete performs, the same way technical ceramics perform.” - Assistant Professor of Architecture at University of Pennsylvania, Laia Mogas-Soldevila. The future of sustainable housing can be found at University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design—more specifically, their cafeteria. Partnering with food supplier Bon Appétit Management Company and student-farmers, researchers at the DumoLab Research (DLR) are collecting used fruit peels to construct architecture with dried scraps, a promising step towards reducing food waste in Philadelphia. Some heartfelt words from our CEO Fedele Bauccio, who was on hand in Chicago to witness the opening of the Obama Foundation's Obama Presidential Center!❤️
I was in Chicago this past week as we opened the new restaurant and café at the Obama Presidential Center, which we helped design with the Obama Foundation. Over 30 Bon Appétit chefs and managers helped during the week. I am so thankful to all of them for their support and leadership. Those of you who have read the news about the event saw that it was a star-studded affair. But more than anything I was struck by the amazing outpouring of love the Chicago community showed for the Obamas and for what the new Center represents. It is a place of hope, dignity, and peace for everyone. It’s a place of shared values, integrity, and compassion for all. And it’s a place where people can find the power and the magic in community. I left profoundly inspired. Today I am filled with hope that this next generation will harness that magical power and ignite a fire of creative discovery and innovation to build a better world. I’m so proud to work with Clifford Rome, Bryan Bruin, Kellie Piper, and the entire Bon Appétit team at this amazing place. https://lnkd.in/gu4QRmzn

What could be better than Bon Appétiters gathering to strengthen community and cultivate excellence? (We'll likely be waiting forever for an answer to that.) 50 Bon Appétit corporate, regional, and account-specific leaders recently gathered to collaborate and plan for next year. Here's what went down: 💡 They explored new ideas for events, including tricycles for pop-ups and a Farm to Fork-themed activation... 🌱 ...and enjoyed a lot of plant-forward, locally sourced food! 🏆 Operational excellence was acknowledged with regional awards. Congrats to University of the Pacific's Marco Alvarado for winning Regional General Manager of the Year and University of San Francisco's Xing Luo for receiving the Regional Impact Hourly Associate of the Year Award! 🤔 Additional topics of conversation included hospitality, inclusive dining, and safety. Here's to Bon Appétiters coming together to learn from each other and build community! 🥂
