About us

Bridgewater Associates is a global macro investment firm, founded in 1975, whose mission is to develop a fundamental, cause-and-effect understanding of how markets and economies work—and translate that understanding into insights, returns, and solutions that help the world’s leading institutional investors solve their most important investment challenges. Over five decades, we have codified our fundamental understanding into a systematic investment process—integrating human judgment with machine intelligence with the goal of applying our thinking consistently, testing it against reality, and continuously improving decision-making over time. We believe this has created a unique platform for applying AI within our process, positioning us at the frontier of integrating technology with investment decision-making. In financial markets—where reality is constantly evolving and outcomes are uncertain—sustained excellence requires continuous learning and improvement. Our culture—anchored in radical truth and transparency—helps us learn faster.

Updates

  • “If it doesn’t end up benefiting society and humans, what is the point?” Bridgewater CEO Nir Bar Dea sat down with David M Rubenstein for Bloomberg’s Peer-to-Peer to discuss investing with AI and its potential to change the world—for better and worse.   In this excerpt, Nir shares how more than a decade of work led to Bridgewater building an artificial investor that generates its own investment ideas, the importance of combining human and technological ideation, and why AI’s potential requires both safety regulation and preparing society for its impact. Full interview out later this month—watch the clip here: https://lnkd.in/ekYPqdzA

  • In a Q&A with The Information, Managing CIO Greg Jensen discusses the risks of increasingly powerful AI and the need for regulation—including why the largest holders of AI compute should be regulated similarly to systemically important banks. He also discusses how Bridgewater’s hands-on experience building an artificial investor at AIA Labs is providing critical perspective on what AI is capable of and how it should be governed. • 1,300 submissions. 150+ countries. 14 finalists. One roundtable. Bridgewater and Global Citizen brought the Forecasting the Future finalists together to debate their forecasts with one another and a team of our investors. The goal: probe, challenge, and stress-test their thinking on two forces reshaping the world ahead—modern mercantilism and artificial intelligence. On September 26, our five winners will be announced on stage at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, in front of more than 60,000 people.

  • Managing CIO Greg Jensen joined Bloomberg's Odd Lots podcast to discuss why he thinks the current moment in AI is akin to February 2020—when the threat posed by COVID was rapidly growing but society was unprepared—and what needs to be done about it.  He shares why the risk of AI-caused disasters needs to be taken seriously, what regulations are needed now, and how AI is rapidly reshaping Bridgewater's investment processes. • Congratulations to our CEO, Nir Bar Dea, on being named Co-Chair of Global Citizen's Global Board of Directors.   Nir’s been a Global Citizen for over a decade and a member of the GC board since 2022, and the impact of the partnership has only grown from there. In 2023, our employees started engaging with the mission and taking action through the GC Festival. In 2024, we combined Bridgewater's economic research with Global Citizen's convening power to help launch the Economic Development Assembly in Abidjan, which brought together heads of state and global leaders in support of the World Bank's IDA21 replenishment. And in 2025, together we launched Forecasting the Future—a global competition where anyone can show their merit on the biggest macro challenges, bringing great people into Bridgewater in full-time roles. The common thread has been a commitment to action in a world evolving more rapidly than ever. We love being on the journey with Global Citizen and are very excited about what’s ahead.   Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQTNKKYG

  • There’s a difference between learning an approach and making it your own. As part of our Bridgewater Alumni Series, alum Paul Podolsky recently sat down with Daily Observations editor Jim Haskel to reflect on his time at Bridgewater, the experiences that shaped him as an investor, how he processes the world today, and what he’s working on now. Paul also shares how his thinking has evolved over the years and his perspective on developing a distinct approach to writing and investing. Watch the full conversation: https://lnkd.in/djHv2a6Y

  • AI is advancing rapidly, with the potential to profoundly reshape the economy and society. The stakes are high—and the time to act is now. In a guest essay for The New York Times, CEO Nir Bar Dea and Managing CIO Greg Jensen explain how the choices we make today will help determine whether AI’s potential is broadly shared and how society navigates the economic disruption that could come with it. They outline steps policymakers can take now to shape that outcome, including rebalancing incentives between human and machine labor, giving citizens a stake in AI’s economic upside, and strengthening safeguards around frontier AI.    Read the full essay here: https://lnkd.in/e5xM7s7N

  • The historic AI capex boom is driving roughly a quarter of global growth. Modern mercantilism has alerted the world that any chokepoints can and will be weaponized. Together, these forces are creating a structurally different kind of expansion.    During our latest quarterly call, Co-CIO Karen Karniol-Tambour breaks down the shape of the economy today and the risks we see.
