The brands, they are collaborating. It seems as though every day brings a new announcement from an odd-couple pairing of companies (or a company and a celebrity) about some sort of co-branded product. In the past month alone, Dunkin' and L.L.Bean came together to sell a tote bag and sweater, JELL-O and Tower 28 teamed up to make lip gloss, and Mane and Cinnabon put out a lip balm and hairbrush. The list goes on and on. From a corporate perspective, the calculation is pretty straightforward: Brand A + Brand B = $$$. Hopefully. But collab city is getting pretty crowded. At their best, these mashups create something that's genuinely exciting and creative that neither name could have made alone. At their worst, they're two logos slapped together on an uninspiring sweatshirt or fanny pack — a customer acquisition ploy dressed up as cultural relevance. McDonald's is betting $8.5 billion on a turnaround. China is putting fresh pressure on energy markets as global oil prices hover at a key threshold. Brent crude oil abruptly spiked above $100 a barrel on Thursday, reversing course after earlier declines following a report that refiners in China are suspending exports in October. Brent crude prices surged nearly 4% to $101.50 a barrel, while US oil prices rose 2% to $92.54. According to Reuters, Chinese refiners have suspended fuel exports for the month to preserve domestic oil stocks, putting new pressure on a corner of the oil trade already facing a supply squeeze. "If Chinese barrels disappear from the export market, buyers elsewhere have to compete for an even smaller pool of refined products", stated Anindya Banerjee, head of research at trading platform Kotek Neos currencies and commodities desk. Business Insider's Henry Chandonnet's row of Alice Tully Hall was filled with reporters scribbling notes about the buzzy new Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Then, they heard the warning. "In the interest of trying to preserve a relatively spoiler-free experience for later audiences, we ask that you not film and post this conversation," said Dennis Lim, the artistic director of New York Film Festival. Lim recommended shaming anyone who recorded the chat between Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the directors of "You Can See Everything." A flock of journalists put their phones away, disappointedly. The filmmakers had reason to worry: "You Can See Everything" was one of the most shocking, revelatory, and oddly funny films Chandonnet has ever seen. Turkey has nearly 3,000 quarries and is one of the world's largest exporters of natural stone. We visited the Alimoglu family, who operates quarries that can yield up to 35,000 tons of travertine a month. A single section of travertine can weigh as much as 600 tons — more than about 300 cars. Most of these raw blocks are already sold to wholesale clients before they even leave the quarry. Depending on quality, they can sell for $40 to $600 a ton.
