“Stevenson Square is a welcome step forward in our collective efforts to address the housing crisis in our city,” said State Senator Nathalia Fernandez, as reported by Traded: New York. “The demand for affordable housing far exceeds our supply, contributing to social inequality and limiting individuals’ ability to invest in their future. This project will help to create safe, quality, and affordable units that reflect the needs of our neighbors in Soundview, and will help build a stronger, more vibrant community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.” Learn more about the multi-phase affordable housing development project in the Bronx’s Soundview neighborhood: https://lnkd.in/ef3W3zSh.

"The reality is that the preservation of affordable housing can be difficult,” said Camber head of development Karen Hu at Commercial Observer’s annual Future of New York event earlier this month, during which industry insiders discussed the importance of public-private partnerships in solving the housing crisis. "For example, relocation during construction can be stressful for the families who live there, many of whom have lived there for generations. This is why earning — and keeping — the residents’ trust is always top of of mind.” Read to hear more of the takeaways: https://lnkd.in/eTT_Sj37.

Earlier this week, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of HELP USA Women’s Center, a brand-new, sustainable 200-bed facility in East New York that will serve as an intake and assessment center for women entering the homeless shelter system — the first in the nation designed and built specifically for this purpose. “We are proud to have played a role in bringing this facility to life and look forward to welcoming residents whose lives will be positively impacted from this space and these crucial supportive services,” said Camber principal Rick Gropper. “Thank you to our partners at the NYC Department of Social Services and HELP USA for seeing this life-changing project over the finish line — and providing critical services and care for up to 200 women each day.” Learn more about HELP Women’s Center: https://lnkd.in/exrfhYCy. A look inside a newly renovated home at Bronx River Addition. Each of the housing development’s 226 apartments is being modernized by Fifth Avenue Builders — a joint venture between Camber Property Group and Urban Atelier Group — in partnership with the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust and the residents themselves. The work being done in each residence includes a new kitchen, bathroom and windows, updated electric, plumbing, and ventilation systems — and aging-in-place design elements integrated throughout. “I’ve always been drawn to real estate because it’s a field where every deal, every building, and every decision has a real outcome you can see,” says Camber asset manager Elias Reyna. “And at Camber, there’s a real focus on making sure the properties are run the right way and that the residents are taken care of, not just checking a box. Developments like Victory Plaza represent the type of work we take pride in — creating quality housing, keeping properties running strong long-term, and making sure the communities we invest in are better off because we’re there.” NYC Housing, Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, Inc. What inspired Walter McNeil to run for president of the Edenwald Houses Tenant Association thirty-two years ago? His commitment to make positive change in the community he’s now called home for the past fifty-two. “Edenwald is the largest development in the Bronx. We've always taken pride in our community and taken care of each other,” he says. “I ran for president because I wanted to establish a Narcotics Anonymous program to combat the drug epidemic at the time. I had to run against the existing TA president three times before I won. The Narcotics Anonymous chapter I helped found at Edenwald still runs to this day.” Another positive change for the community, as he sees it, is the preservation work being done on the housing complex in partnership with fellow residents and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) under the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program. “We are proud of the renovations. Everything is brand new all over again.” Follow @camberpropertygroup for more from the people who call our communities home. L+M Development Partners LLC

“Beyond being the first City-led development that co-locates affordable housing with an NYC Parks recreation center, Hudson Mosaic is an excellent showcase for how publicly subsidized housing can be planned and designed to the highest level of design excellence,” reports NYC Housing in a press release for the project. “The design is innovative and cutting-edge, featuring a highly efficient trapezoidal design that minimizes shadows on the surrounding streets and J.J. Walker Park — and a facade that makes tailored references to the surrounding historic architecture of the West Village while meeting the highest standards for energy efficiency.” Read more about Hudson Mosaic — a state-of-the-art recreation center with 100% affordable housing, designed by the award-winning international architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron in collaboration with New York City-based Curtis + Ginsberg Architects: https://lnkd.in/geVi9Kzm. City & State’s first-ever list of Who’s Who in Affordable Housing showcases the New Yorkers working hard to ease the city’s housing crisis — like Camber’s principal and head of development Karen Hu, who was named in recognition of her extensive work in the preservation, construction and conversion of affordable housing across the boroughs. “I grew up in New York City, so I understand firsthand the challenges of raising a family here. As an urban planner by training, I’ve worked hard to build a team of dedicated housing professionals committed to creating homes that serve a diverse mix of people, backgrounds, and experiences.” Learn more about the work Karen is doing: https://lnkd.in/eYhXb3Kc.

No single policy will solve New York City’s homelessness crisis on its own, but a little-known program with tremendous potential offers one of the most effective paths from shelter to permanent housing. Affordable Housing Services is a proven model that can help thousands of New Yorkers move into deeply affordable, stable homes, and it deserves a significant role in the incoming administration’s strategy to end homelessness. At the end of last year, the INSTITUTE FOR COMMUNITY LIVING, INC, the NYC Department of Social Services, and Camber Property Group came together to acquire and open The Atlantic in East New York. What was once a vacant, unrealized market-rate building is now home to 183 families and individuals who are finally leaving shelter. For people who have faced years of discrimination and countless barriers in the private rental market, The Atlantic represents something rare: a rapid path to long-term housing stability. And this wouldn’t have happened without AHS. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has ambitious affordable housing goals. To achieve them, we do not need to start from scratch — we can build on what is working. Mayor Mamdani should invest in AHS, scale it and make it a central solution for New Yorkers who are ready to leave shelter for good. Every New Yorker deserves what residents at The Atlantic now have: a front door, a key and a home to return to. Read the full article below: https://lnkd.in/ey-RP_SQ.

“There’s such a desperate need for affordable housing in our city that we can leave no stone unturned, and Stevenson Square is a prime example of how we can turn underutilized land into new affordable housing,” says Camber principal Rick Gropper. “We worked with our partners at the city to first preserve and upgrade the existing 948 affordable apartments and then embarked on a master plan to create a truly mixed-income, mixed-use campus.” “The first phases of Stevenson Square, coming online this year, will address some of the most critical affordable housing needs facing the city today: senior housing and affordable homeownership. Both types of housing provide upward mobility by reducing the ever-increasing housing burden faced by New Yorkers today.” Follow for more updates on Stevenson Square, a multi-phase, $1 billion affordable housing development project in the Bronx’s Soundview neighborhood.
