Our latest peer-reviewed research explores how speech helps detect early changes in Huntington’s disease 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. In collaboration with leading clinicians and researchers from Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and University of California San Diego School of Medicine, our team studied whether a brief, structured speech task could distinguish individuals in the 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 stage of Huntington’s disease from healthy controls. The results are promising: Using a brief, structured reading task, a deep learning model achieved 87% accuracy when distinguishing individuals with Huntington’s disease from healthy controls, and showed strong performance even in the earliest, pre-symptomatic stages. As someone living with MS (and as the daughter of a mother who faced it before me), I carry this disease in more ways than one. Every new piece of research, every spark of innovation, feels personal. It feels like a step toward a future where people like my mom, like me, and like so many others don’t have to wait years for answers. That’s why this matters.
