  • Knowing when and how to act on suspected child abuse can feel intimidating. Many professionals hesitate, not because they don’t care, but because they’re unsure of the process or fear making a mistake. In our latest blog, Ken McKinley, Director of the Children’s Center of Arizona at Childhelp, breaks down the realities of mandatory reporting. He explains what “reasonable belief” means under the law, highlights common signs of abuse and neglect, and clarifies why reporting is often simpler and safer than many realize. Ken also addresses common fears like retaliation or overreacting and walks through what really happens after a report is made, from investigations to interventions aimed at keeping children safe while supporting families. Understanding these steps and having the right training can make a real difference. Knowing when to act isn’t just a legal responsibility it can change a child’s life. Read our latest blog below to gain clarity, confidence, and actionable guidance for protecting children in your care. https://lnkd.in/gXcsXZxm #ChildSafety #MandatoryReporting #ProtectChildren #SocialImpact #ProfessionalDevelopment

  • Some calls are hard to hear but they’re even harder to live through. 💔 This dramatization reflects the reality of what children across the country experience every day: fear, pain, and silence. It can turn fear into safety, silence into support, and hurt into hope. Your support keeps this lifeline on. Together, we can be the difference between suffering in silence and finding safety. • 17% of public school students nationwide have experienced sexual misconduct by teachers or school staff. This is not just a statistic. It is a call to action. Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe (SUBS) is an evidence based program that empowers students in Pre K through 12 to recognize risks, build resistance skills, foster healthy relationships, and speak up to trusted adults. SUBS also supports schools in creating stronger safety networks for children and teens. Learn more and help bring SUBS into more schools: https://lnkd.in/g-4j-5n6 It is time to take action. • When systems meant to protect children fall short, the consequences can be devastating. 💔 An independent investigation uncovered dozens of child sexual abuse cases that were not properly investigated, revealing serious gaps in oversight and follow-through. For survivors, being ignored or unheard can be just as harmful as the abuse itself. Our children’s voices must be heard. Every child deserves to be believed and protected. Virginia Bagby, Director of the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, speaks on why speaking up still matters Read the article below to learn more. https://lnkd.in/gAGkU_fe #ChildAbuseAwareness #ProtectChildren #EndChildAbuse #SpeakUp #ChildSafety #ChildAdvocacy #EveryChildMatters #ChildProtection #SurvivorVoices #Childhelp

  • A 17-year-old young man reached out to the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline feeling completely overwhelmed and hopeless. Isolated and confined at home, he shared that every attempt to get help went unanswered and that nothing in his life seemed capable of changing. He said he wasn't sure why he called but he knew he didn't want to give up. He was a few months from turning 18 and said his mom keeps him locked in a room and completely isolated. He shared that he had been thinking about hurting himself, but reaching out gave him a chance to find help. The Childhelp counselor responded with calm, compassion, and steady reassurance, creating a safe space to talk. Step by step, the counselor helped slow the moment and reminded the young man that this moment was not the end of his story. Together, they focused on what could be done now to stay safe and get through the day. The counselor reminded him that very soon he would be 18, an adult, and could receive services without parental consent. As the conversation continued, the teen began to settle. The counselor gently helped him look ahead to a near future where more help and freedom would be possible, offering a reason to hold on. By the end of the call, he agreed to simple, caring steps to rest and take care of himself, his voice noticeably calmer. Because of faithful donors who support Childhelp’s hotline, one young life was met with compassion and the reminder that even in the darkest moments, his life has value, purpose, and a future worth protecting. If you or someone you know needs help, call, text, or chat with the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.
