As the world counts down to the 2026 #FIFAWorldCup, another trend is impossible to ignore: extreme heat is rising at nearly every host stadium. 🌡️On average, extremely hot days have tripled in repeat host cities since their last World Cup. For example, Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca — set to become the first stadium ever to host three World Cups — has seen a dramatic increase in dangerous June-July heat. In the lead-up to the 1986 tournament, the stadium averaged 2 extremely hot days each summer. Ahead of 2026, that number has climbed to 11. ⚽Human-caused climate change, driven largely by pollution from coal, oil, and gas, is reshaping the conditions players and fans face during the world’s most popular sporting event. The climate crisis is no longer a future concern for sports — it’s already changing the game. Kick off the conversation and read more with #ClimateCentral: https://lnkd.in/e-SqZ75k

Ever wonder how humid heat impacts human health? When the air is humid, sweat doesn’t evaporate as efficiently — making it harder for the body to cool itself. That raises the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, medical emergencies that can quickly become life-threatening. Extreme heat affects everyone, but children, older adults, outdoor workers, athletes, and people without access to cooling are at a higher risk for heat-related illnesses. As climate change drives more frequent and intense heat events, understanding the role of humidity is critical for protecting public health. ➡️This #HeatSafety Awareness Week, read more about the growing risks of humid heat: https://lnkd.in/eU2hdxah ➡️Explore #ClimateCentral's new Humid Heat CSI tool: https://lnkd.in/eMeB5Ekd

Thank you to everyone who participated in today's National Adaptation Forum workshop on Adaptation Information-Sharing! Partners from GCC, EcoAdapt, U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, Climate Central, Inc., and others discussed how tools like the Adaptation Clearinghouse and the Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange can help adaptation practitioners find the climate resilience resources they need to do their work protecting people and places from climate impacts. GCC's Annie Bennett & Marisa B., EcoAdapt's Kathryn N. Braddock, and NOAA's Ned Gardiner provided remarks.

🌡️Extreme heat is among the deadliest weather hazards — and humidity makes it even more dangerous. A new tool from #ClimateCentral, Climate Shift Index: Humid Heat (also referred to as Humid Heat CSI), tracks the influence of climate change on daily humid heat conditions and related health risks every day across the globe. Grounded in peer-reviewed science, the Humid Heat CSI system uses two different maps to tell this climate story: 🟣Humid Heat and Health Map 🟣Humid Heat Climate Signal Map With summer approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, millions of people face dangerous heat ahead. This tool can help journalists, health professionals, and decision-makers better communicate the growing health risks associated with extreme heat and humidity, and its connection to human-caused climate change. ➡️Explore the tool: https://lnkd.in/eMeB5Ekd 📖Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCHeh2pT

🐦Climate change is ruffling more than a few feathers. Warmer temperatures and shifting seasons are disrupting bird migration patterns around the globe, putting nearly two-thirds of North American bird species at risk from climate-related range loss. This #WorldMigratoryBirdDay, discover how climate change is impacting hundreds of millions of migratory birds in backyards and neighborhoods across North America: https://lnkd.in/eW8n9GZU

“We know that extreme events will continue to happen, and we need to learn from them.” In a recent episode of Sustainable1 by S&P Global Energy Horizons’ podcast 'All Things Sustainable,' #ClimateCentral Senior Climate Impacts Scientist Adam Smith discussed the rise of U.S. billion-dollar weather and climate disasters and what insights communities can take away from past events. As of March 2026, the U.S. has sustained 431 such events, with a total cost exceeding $3.1 trillion. 📍Explore Climate Central’s billion-dollar disasters database: https://lnkd.in/e79xh66n 🎙️Tune in to a snippet of the podcast below and listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eW8DDDxZ
In this episode of the All Things Sustainable podcast, we're exploring how billion-dollar scale extreme weather and #climate disasters in the US are growing in frequency and cost — and what that means for businesses, communities and disaster recovery efforts. In the episode, we speak to project lead Adam Smith, Senior Climate Impacts Scientist at Climate Central, Inc.. He explains how the landscape for climate research is evolving in the US and what the business community can take away from past weather and climate disasters. https://okt.to/X3krzs
