BREAKING: The House of Representatives has passed the Continuing Resolution 370-48 with the hemp extension intact and sent the bill to the President's desk. Over the past several weeks, thousands of hemp advocates, farmers, businesses, consumers, veterans, and supporters took action to ensure lawmakers understood what was at stake. Because of those efforts, Congress has now approved a one-month extension of the impending federal hemp restrictions, providing valuable time to continue working toward a long-term solution. Thank you to everyone who sent emails, made calls, signed letters, attended meetings, and shared our message. This extension is not the finish line. It is an opportunity. We intend to use every day between now and December to advance a regulatory framework that protects consumers, prevents youth access to intoxicating products, and supports a thriving hemp industry. 61-32 VICTORY for the hemp industry! In a decisive 61-32 vote this morning, the Senate passed the Continuing Resolution with the hemp extension intact, which if passed by the House in September will prevent a federal hemp ban from taking effect on November 12 and preserve a path toward sensible federal regulation through December 11. This victory belongs to the thousands of farmers, small businesses, manufacturers, retailers, consumers, veterans, and families who took action. Over the past several weeks, hemp advocates across the country contacted their Senators, shared their stories, and made it clear that regulation, not prohibition, is the right path forward. Because of that advocacy, access to lawful hemp products has been preserved, American jobs and businesses have been protected, and Congress now has additional time to develop a comprehensive federal framework that works for consumers and the industry alike. While this is a major win, our work is far from over. The extension gives us something invaluable: time. Time to advance smart regulations that protect consumers, prevent youth access to intoxicating products, support farmers and businesses, and preserve access to lawful hemp products for millions of Americans. ‼️Early this morning the Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government till 12/11 ℹ️The CR included a provision to extend the redefinition of hemp until 12/11 ℹ️Senator Budd (among others) filed an amendment to remove the hemp extension, the amendment was tabled 61-32 after a motion by Senator Klobuchar (D-MN) at 2:36 am ➡️The entire CR was voted on at 4am and passed 90-6 ➡️The senate adjourned at 4:56am ℹ️The bill moves onto the house for when they return in the fall

Many of us went to bed wondering whether we'd wake up to Christmas morning or something akin to the movie Groundhog Day, while the Senate continued to work on its CR, with the hemp extension a hot topic! While we awoke to Christmas morning, it occurred to me that it is somewhat similar to how Bill Murray's character broke out of his Groundhog Day cycle. He put in the work. Well, I can tell you, we put in the work. We live to fight another day because we fought like hell leading up to this moment. Some of the best advocacy work our industry has ever done was over the past 1-2 weeks to overcome the Budd amendment and ensure a short-term extension in the Senate CR - and there's more proof of our regulatory efforts to come! Vote to table the Budd Amendment: 61-32 Vote to pass the Senate CR (with the hemp extension): 90-6 Take a minute and celebrate. But you know what I'm going to say! It can't stop here. We need to continue demonstrating dedication to regulation, addressing Congress's public safety concerns with solution-oriented policy, and making sure our consumers' voices are heard! The Senate heard us and chose regulation; the House will hear us in September! I'll have more words when I've gotten a full night's rest - the Senate had other plans for me 😝 Shoutout to Senator Sheehy and Senator Klobuchar for all the support, including Klobuchar who spoke to how regulation can create safe access and benefit a community, the way it has in Minnesota. Today or tomorrow, the Senate might vote on an amendment offered by Senator Ted Budd that would remove the hemp extension from the Continuing Resolution to keep government open. If adopted, this amendment would eliminate the temporary protection included in the Senate funding package and put the hemp industry back on track for a sweeping federal hemp ban scheduled to take effect on November 12.
