Community partnerships and cultural celebration took center stage last week at McAuliffe International School's Annual Hispanic Heritage Night on Thursday, September 24. The evening brought together students, families, and local leaders to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month through an immersive showcase of culture—featuring food trucks, live music, student-led performances, poetry, theater, art, and storytelling. Denver Sheriff Department leadership, along with the DSD Mounted Unit, participated in the event, building strong, positive community relationships in Denver. Thank you to McAuliffe International School for hosting such a meaningful celebration! #CommunityEngagement #DSDEst1902 #HispanicHeritageMonth #DiversityAndInclusion

We're celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month! 🌟 Unlike most cultural heritage observances, Hispanic Heritage Month begins in the middle of the month—September 15—to coincide with the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, followed closely by Mexico and Chile. At the Denver Sheriff Department, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to our mission. We take this time to honor the contributions of our Hispanic and Latino team members and community partners who help make Denver a safer and more vibrant place to live and work. We encourage everyone across the Denver metropolitan area to participate in local events, support Hispanic-owned businesses, and celebrate the rich history and culture that surrounds us. How is your organization celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month this year? #HispanicHeritageMonth #DSDEst1902 #Leadership #CommunityEngagement #DiversityAndInclusion

What an incredible time at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival! 🚣♂️✨ Our recruitment team had an amazing time connecting with so many talented professionals at Sloan's Lake Park. From cheering on the racing teams to discussing career growth and future opportunities with everyone who stopped by our booth, the energy was unmatched. A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to chat with us, share their career goals, and learn more about our company culture. Just like dragon boat racing, building a great workplace relies on teamwork, alignment, and shared drive—and we’re excited about the potential team members we met this weekend! #DragonBoatFestival #DSDEst1902 #Teamwork #HiringNow

In law enforcement and public safety, teamwork is everything—and sometimes that teammate has four legs, a tail, and an incredible work ethic. 🐕🦺 Tomorrow is National Hug Your Hound Day and the Denver Sheriff Department recognizes the vital role our K9 Unit plays in our daily operations. Beyond their specialized skills and dedication to security, these dogs are integral partners to our deputies, fostering strong morale, trust, and companionship within our ranks. Effective leadership and public safety operations rely heavily on the well-being and partnership we share with our teams—human and canine alike. Take a moment tomorrow (today and always) to appreciate the unique ways animals enrich our workplaces and communities. #DSDEst1902 #Teamwork #K9Unit #CommunityPolicing #NationalHugYourHoundDay

On World Suicide Prevention Day, the Denver Sheriff Department emphasizes the vital intersection of public safety, correctional care, and mental health intervention. Studies consistently show that the first 14 days of incarceration represent the highest risk window for self-harm and suicide, often compounded by substance withdrawal and sudden isolation. Addressing these challenges requires continuous innovation, evidence-based housing models, and physical environment adjustments. In this video, our Chief of Mental Health Services shares how the DSD is actively mitigating risk through: • Initial multi-person housing models designed to reduce isolation during intake • Structural design modifications in housing units to remove anchor points and potential safety risks • Specialized protective equipment and immediate mental health evaluations upon arrival Ensuring safety in our facilities requires continuous evaluation and dedicated mental health leadership.
