Last month, Energy Trades and Electrical program students faced off at Randolph Career and Technical School during its inaugural "Brawl for All" wiring competition. Students demonstrated their understanding of a 3-way switch by getting their lightbulb turned on in under 30 minutes. Skilled trades professionals from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 58, together with Detroit-based educators, and DTE Distribution Operations splicer specialist leader Thabti-Akil S. Williamson, judged the competitors on safety compliance, wiring accuracy, and workmanship. Energy Trades program instructor Patricia LeBlanc and former instructor Charles Fowlkes proudly cheered on all of the teams during the competition. "I retired from DTE Energy's workforce development team and had the privilege of working with Randolph to help launch this amazing program," said Patricia. "To be here today, seeing the students apply their learnings while having fun at the same time -- it's truly a full circle moment for me!" Experiences like this help explain why CTE programs deliver strong outcomes for students statewide. According to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Development, 96% of students enrolled in state-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs graduate high school, which is 14% higher than the state's overall rate. That success is driving Michigan’s broader education strategy to expand high-quality CTE programs - like Randolph’s - for students to gain in-demand industry credentials, and connect with employers before graduation. • We're proudly spotlighting DTE managers Josh Harper and Matt Wagner, who were awarded this year's Family Friendly Leadership Award for their commitment to work-life balance. "For me, leadership is the opportunity to meet my team where they are and empower them to do their best," said Josh. "That can range from scheduling flexibility to address personal matters or offering development opportunities for folks to grow. Whatever the solution, supporting each other helps our team to go out as their best selves to serve our customers and communities." "In the long run, working with employees regarding work-life balance recognizes there are times when work might require more focus than usual, and likewise, aspects of one’s personal life must sometimes be prioritized," said Matt. "What’s important in this space is the willingness to listen for understanding, humility, and empathy.” Learn about our company's employee resource groups: http://spr.ly/6043B6nXL5 #HowWeServe

  • Last week, our team joined partners at the National Energy & Utility Affordability Coalition to observe LIHEAP Action Day – a national day of advocacy focused on protecting critical federal funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP is a vital lifeline for many of our customers during times of financial hardship. The individuals featured here work every day alongside families, households and community partners to help ensure our customers stay safe, supported and connected to the energy they need. We’re proud to stand with industry and community partners to raise awareness and advocate for sustained funding that makes a meaningful difference for vulnerable households.
