At Flutterwave, we are on a mission to build payments infrastructure to connect Africa to the global economy. We do this by building technology, tools, and infrastructure for businesses and banks who want to provide a more seamless and secure payments experience for their customers. Founded in 2016 by a team of African finance and technology veterans from Standard Bank, PayPal, Google Wallet amongst others. Flutterwave has grown to become one of the fastest growing payments companies in the world. Since inception Flutterwave has processed close to $2 billion in payments and 25 million transactions across over 33 African countries where it currently operates. It has attracted significant investment from experienced Fintech investors such as Ycombinator Continuity Fund (investors in Stripe), Greycroft (investors in Braintree and Venmo), Greenvisor Capital, Omidyar Network, and Glynn Capital amongst others. In 2017 Flutterwave was named Africa’s best fintech company at the Apps Africa Innovation Awards.

I left New York with one thought I can’t shake. Growth only matters when businesses can actually feel it. I had the honour of joining leaders from the public and private sectors at theFlutterwave Invest Africa roundtable on the sidelines of UNGA 81. We talked about capital, infrastructure, cross-border commerce and public-private partnerships. What stood out most was how practical the conversation was. Nobody stayed at the level of opportunity. The room kept pushing toward execution. Three questions came up again and again: 1. How do we make it easier for businesses to access capital? 2. How do we make it simpler to receive payments? 3. How do we help them trade across borders and share in Africa's growth? My takeaway is simple. Africa does not lack ambition. What we need are the systems, partnerships and infrastructure that turn that ambition into businesses that grow, jobs that get created and communities that prosper. We wrapped up our UNGA 81 engagement in New York with a super-packed room of executives. Together with Invest Africa Ltd, we hosted Africa Forward: Investing in the Next Decade of Growth, a closed-door roundtable that brought senior government officials, business leaders, investors and financial institutions into one room for open conversations about what it will take to unlock Africa’s growth over the next decade. Having senior Nigerian government officials and state governors in the room, alongside leaders from global financial institutions, investors and businesses, was a powerful reminder of what can happen when the public and private sectors come together around a shared ambition for Africa.
