We recorded Fixpoint's YC application video at 11pm, 1 hour before the deadline, while we were hiring 100+ data annotators a week. It was poorly shot and barely rehearsed, but it got us into YC! The most important thing when fundraising: is your business good? Very few can paper over that and raise on top of a bad business. It’s easiest to raise when things are working. When we applied, we were already working with one of the largest AI data annotation companies, vetting all PhDs that applied on their platform, and we were partnered with other AI data companies to staff annotation projects for the largest AI model labs. We were making ~ $30k / month and more than ramen profitable. I compare this to before, when we tried to raise money in 2024 on an uncooked idea in a competitive market, with no revenue. Everything is much better once your business is already working, and at that point any flashy pitch materials are just window dressing. BTW, YC Demo Day is coming up, and we’re raising more money. Now it’s because we can’t service all our inbound customer demand and need to hire a few people to help us build faster 😁
