New research, released today from IAB and Grocery TV, surveyed retail media buyers and decision-makers to understand how they’re approaching in-store retail media today and what it takes to realize its full potential. The findings show that while marketers see in-store as a full-funnel channel, it’s not always planned and measured that way. In the report, you’ll learn: 🛒 How to get more from in-store across the purchase journey 📊 Why broader measurement can reveal more of in-store’s value 🔓 What factors could unlock greater utilization and investment Download it here: https://lnkd.in/geG9B2aU
The grocery store is where purchase decisions happen. So why is it still missing from so many media plans? For ADWEEK, Grocery TV CEO Marlow Nickell makes the case for treating the store as a measurable media environment, rather than the final stop in the customer journey. New research shows that 95% of grocery shoppers make at least half of their purchase decisions in store. At the same time, in-store media has evolved, with stronger shopper acceptance, more sophisticated measurement, and the ability to drive incremental reach and sales. For CPG marketers, that creates a bigger opportunity to connect media investment to the moment when shoppers are deciding what actually goes in the basket. This week at Groceryshop, Sarah Marzano shared that RMNs expect revenue to grow about 23% this year. Sponsored search and onsite display are among the formats expected to drive near-term growth, but there is only so much room to grow within the digital properties retailers already own. The store is the natural place to look next, since retailers already have the audience, footprint, and shopper context to turn it into a media channel that extends the value of their existing networks. In-store media expands the offering beyond those formats and gives brands incremental reach where shoppers are already making purchase decisions. Our Grocery TV research found that adding in-store to an onsite-only campaign increased reach by 39%. Retailers can build on the capabilities they already have and add the technology, measurement, and operations that make in-store a scalable part of their media offering, with specialized partners supporting the pieces they'd rather not build themselves. If retailers are looking for the next layer of retail media growth, there is a good chance they will find it in the store.
Groceryshop is underway! 🛒 We’re at booth 1109, bringing the in-store experience to life and showing what retail media can look like when it’s built around the shopper. If you’re at #Groceryshop and thinking about investing in in-store media for your brand or retail media network, come by and see us. On this week's #Retailmediaminute, WPP Media's, Jeff Malmad discusses how retailers are unlocking high-margin retail media revenue. According to Grocery TV, nearly two-thirds of shoppers report buying something after seeing it on an in-store screen.
Kids have a big say in what makes it into the grocery cart. Across key categories, purchase rates climb among shoppers with kids. The biggest jump is in kids’ snacks and drinks: 38% of all shoppers buy them regularly, compared with 70% of shoppers with kids. While most shoppers enter the store knowing what category they need, they haven’t necessarily decided which brand they’ll buy. That makes the aisle a critical decision point. See what else the data means for brands trying to earn a place in the basket. Link in comments, below.
