Why might AI maturity among P&C insurers be stalling today compared to six months ago? At #ITCVegas, Guidewire Chief Customer Officer Christina Colby joined SHIGEO Kuwabara from GenerativeX to unpack what it really takes to move AI from isolated proof-of-concepts to true enterprise scale. When benchmarking global P&C carriers earlier this year, initial optimism was high. But when revisiting that same group six months later, perceived maturity actually remained unchanged. More than a setback, this demonstrates a reality check. As carriers attempt to move past the demo/pilot phase, they face the real-world friction of scale: data quality, talent constraints, and organizational resistance to change. Key takeaways from the session on reimagining insurance operations with generative AI: 🔵 Move beyond persistent pilots: A standalone demo might look impressive, but enterprise AI must pass three tests: Is it contextual, is it embedded directly into daily core workflows, and is it accountable (observable and auditable)? 🔵 Orchestration over replacement: Generative AI isn't the right answer for every step. The most competitive carriers will orchestrate deterministic rules, predictive analytics, and AI agents together inside a trusted digital core. 🔵 The human impact is nuanced: AI reshapes roles across claims and underwriting differently. While senior claims handlers welcome AI to eliminate administrative tasks and focus on empathy, junior team members need clear guardrails and governance to confidently validate automated decisions.
