UVA Health patients preparing for a video visit get a frictionless intake: instead of filling out a "questionnaire", they have a short conversation with a clinically trained AI in the UVA Health portal covering why they're seeking care, their symptoms, and their history. By the time the visit starts, the clinician already has the picture. Think about the patient experience. Instead of clicking through static "intake questions" you have an intelligent conversation about your health. Many assumes AI in healthcare means fewer doctors. I think it means the opposite. I sat down with Matthew Holt for a The Health Care Blog Spotlight to walk through how PatientGPT and virtual primary care are actually being used inside health systems. We got into the demos, the EHR question, and where care delivery goes as AI mature. My take: the bottleneck in American healthcare was never access to information. It's delivery. When you make it radically easier for a patient to get from "something feels off" to a high quality answer, demand doesn't disappear, it surfaces. We may well need more physicians, doing higher-value work. I also want to give credit where it's due. Healthcare gets a reputation for being slow to adopt technology, but over the past few years Health systems have moved faster on AI than almost any other regulated industry, and they've done it the right way: clinical governance from day one, physicians in the loop, careful scoping before scaling, real measurement instead of press releases. The leaders I work with are asking harder questions than any vendor would like, and the products are better for it. That combination of speed and discipline is rare, and it's the reason this technology is reaching patients safely. K Health Thanks Matthew for a sharp conversation. K Health raised $59 million from leading hospitals and financial investors. We’re rapidly adding health system partners. In the last few months we’ve launched with Penn Medicine, Novant Health, and Atlantic Health, and we're bringing on new partners every month.
