Montgomery County, PA — one of the most diverse, historic, and economically vibrant counties in America.

About us

Montgomery County is the third largest county in Pennsylvania. With just under 900,000 people living in its 487 square miles, Montgomery County is home to scores of major employers in pharmaceuticals, banking, manufacturing, healthcare and education. The Montgomery County government and the services it provides to its residents is a reflection of the county itself – large, diversified, sophisticated and efficient. With close to 2,400 employees, Montgomery County provides a wide range of services serving social needs, business development, employee training, recreational opportunities, public safety, court services and roads and bridges. The county provides and coordinates social services in innovative and efficient ways through several departments including the Office of Children and Youth, Developmental Disabilities, and Aging and Adult Services. Montgomery County maintains 75 miles of roads and 131 bridges; has developed roughly 100 miles of multi-use trails throughout the county; and cares for seven county parks and five historic sites. Montgomery County also boasts an award-winning Department of Public Safety, which includes the only internationally accredited emergency dispatch center (911) in Pennsylvania. The county government provides many other services to its residents, and the county, itself, is home to a wide range of recreational, cultural and artistic outlets. It is served by an excellent public transportation system and its proximity to Philadelphia adds a great deal more to the quality of life in Montgomery County.

  • A new stretch of the Schuylkill River Trail is officially open. 🚲 Montgomery County joined state, local, and regional partners in Pottstown to celebrate the completion of a new 0.9-mile connector between Industrial Highway and the Route 422 bridge, closing one of the final major gaps in the regional trail network. With this connection complete, trail users can now travel nearly 70 continuous miles from Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia to Riverfront Park in Reading. The new segment also provides a safer, more direct route for people walking, biking, running, and rolling across the region. The connector is also the last remaining off-road portion of the Schuylkill River Trail to be completed within Montgomery County. Thank you to the partners, advocates, funders, and trail users who helped make this decades-long vision a reality. Now it’s open and ready to enjoy! 🚲

  • Last night, Montgomery County took our Board Meeting on the road to New Hanover Township! Residents had the opportunity to hear directly from the Board of Commissioners, receive an update on the County’s finances, offer public comment, and follow decisions affecting communities across Montgomery County. The meeting included action on updates to the First-Time Homebuyer Program, local planning assistance, and contracts supporting road safety, public safety, housing, and other County services. Thank you to New Hanover Township for hosting and to everyone who came out to participate in County government.

  • Artificial intelligence is changing how governments deliver services, and Montgomery County is taking a thoughtful approach to its use. The County has announced a new set of guiding principles for the use of AI in government, centered on transparency, fairness, privacy, accountability, and public trust. The principles will help shape how AI is used to support County services while ensuring residents know when these tools are being used and what safeguards are in place to protect their rights and personal information. As part of this effort, the County will create a public registry of AI tools, expand employee training, and establish measures to evaluate how AI is improving services for residents.
