Human First, Human Made- Bringing people together on and offline. We are NYC's worker-cooperative game studio.
About us
Founded in 2023, Munity Games is a democratically-led worker's cooperative game studio based out of New York City. Our mission and value is to ensure each of our members has an equal voice in the business in the hopes of creating a sustainable and cooperative work environment. How We Work: The focus at Munity is making games that all of our members will enjoy developing. Each member has the opportunity to become the lead on a project and learn new skills in the process. While we have department leads on each project, the members of Munity are encouraged, and have the right, to be part of the decision making process. It’s our aim to ensure every member is heard and has a stake in the work they do. Our Missions + Values: We are a human first, human made studio. At a time when the games industry values profit over creativity and using AI to replace the lifeblood of the industry, we’re challenging the establishment to remember why we create games in the first place - for fun. In addition, a goal of ours is to be the link for an incredible need in the gaming industry: the ongoing support and opportunity for junior game developers and artists. You can learn more about what it means to be democratically-led and it’s benefits in this great article by Forbes: https://councils.forbes.com/blog/how-democratic-leadership-can-impact-your-company ________________________________________ Please look forward to our upcoming studio debut game: Shootlanzer, Battle Record of a Midair Mobile Soldier.

Want some insight on how a worker-owned game studio thinks and functions? Come read this piece from NYU Tandon School of Engineering and learn more.
Meet Munity Games — co-founded by Krystel T., Sean Heron, Darcelis Gutierrez, and Savannah Chapman — a democratically led worker cooperative based in New York City that is a part of the inaugural cohort of NYU Game Design Future Lab (GDFL). Their debut title is Shootlanzer, a fast-paced 2D shoot ‘em up that the team describes as a love letter to arcade classics like R-Type and Gradius. But the game has something those classics never had: an Afro-Latina heroine at its center. #NYUTandonMade

Looks like a Renaissance painting! 🎨 A grand time with our star studded NYU GDFL cohort at GDC Festival of Gaming !! 🌟
GDC Festival of Gaming is almost over, but for our incubator teams it’s the beginning of a new chapter thanks to all the opportunities that came up this week! We’re incredibly thankful to all the amazing people that met with us, supported our teams in any way, and attended our Tuesday night mixer. And we are especially thankful to Medal for their support! We have so many things to report back on, so hold up while we wrap our heads around all the exciting things that happened this week in San Francisco. We can’t wait to share! #gamedesigner #gamedeveloper #startup #accelerator #NYUTandonMade

Jeri Ellsworth is another hero I got to meet this GDC Festival of Gaming. Thanks to Munity Games and Jeff R. for letting me tag along with them to Jeri's hardware enthusiast meetup. I've heard about this meetup for so long and have dreamt of attending. It was all I hoped and then some. I'm purely a software guy. I'm not as smart or as mechanically minded as Jeri. As such, I cannot do my work without people like her making things for my software to run on. When Jeri did the Tilt Five Kickstarter, I contributed and followed along as she tried to get things done during the pandemic. She taught me a lot about perseverance as a founder: You just keep going and figuring things out. I've used that knowledge a lot the past couple of years. The Tilt Five HQ is everything you would imagine it would be. The attached video gives you but a tiny sampling of how amazing the space is. There's hardware everywhere. I mean literally every nook and cranny in the space has some piece of hardware that is magical or nostalgic. Jeri had a bunch of friends and regulars over for the meetup. One of whom was Allan Alcorn, creator of Pong, Atari/Apple/Chuck E Cheese alum. He told some amazing stories, but I was too shy to whip my phone out to record them. I was especially glad I didn't when he'd add, "So despite what you've heard, this is the real story..." I got to meet Amy Louise Herndon. She's as wonderful and brilliant in person as she is online. Oh but just realized that Stephanie Greenall wasn't there, so my Tilt Five triangle power boost won't be complete until I meet her. Someday Stephanie we'll meet and like I saw Jeri's and Amy's collections of hardware, I'll have to see your collection of knitted gifts from your grandma/aunt? (sorry, can't remember which now) 🧶🎁 As for the other NYU Game Design Future Lab cohort members, y'all missed out on magical evening. Jeff R. thanks for the wonderful chat afterwards. It was a nice ending to a wonderful evening.
