About us

Murray's Cheese was born in Greenwich Village in 1962, and the heart of our business still resides in New York City with many ways to experience Murray’s locally. At the counter, our cheese experts and mongers serve thousands of neighborhood regulars, commuters, and tourists every year at our three locations—the Bleecker Street flagship retail experience, a beloved neighborhood fixture, our shop in Grand Central Terminal, and our location in Long Island City. For dining out, we operate two New York City restaurants: Murray’s Mac & Cheese, with fast casual fare located in our Bleecker Street store, and Murray’s Cheese Bar, a sit-down restaurant featuring cheese flights and dishes by expert mongers and seasoned chefs. Our Murray’s Cheese Bar location opened in Spring 2020, moving to it’s new home in Long Island City. For those eager to learn more, we offer robust education and events programming and, for those looking to serve more, we provide catering of expertly crafted cheese boards and freshly made dishes. Oh, did we mention we also age our own cheese? Yeah, we do that too. We have state-of-the-art cheese caves in Long Island City. Because we like to share, we wanted to bring our exceptional cheese to people outside of New York too. So, we made Murray’s products available online at murrayscheese.com and in-store with a curated selection of specialty cheese in more than a thousand Kroger and Kroger-owned stores nationwide (and, growing every day!). And, through our wholesale business, you might enjoy Murray’s cheese at more than 600 restaurants across the country.

  • October 1st marks the official start of the holiday season at Murray's, and with it, the return of our beloved 12 Days of Cheese Countdown Calendar! The holidays are made of rituals: the traditions we return to every year, the table everyone gathers around, the little moments that become the memories you'll treasure. For 12 delicious days, we're honored to be part of yours. We chose some of our favorite cheeses from across the world, with selections from England, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, and Ireland. Nine cheeses, four Murray's-exclusive jams, and our favorite crackers are tucked behind a 2026 exclusive illustration, making every day a new surprise to share with the people you love. When it comes to the holidays, Murray's makes them a little more delicious, and there's no better way to celebrate the season than with cheese. Be on the lookout for news on this year's holiday window at our Bleecker Street shop!

  • This week, we’re celebrating the return of a fall favorite from our cheese caves— Murray’s Cave Aged Limited Buttered Pumpkin! For our unique take on pumpkin spice, we trade treacly sweetness for silky triple crème by starting with Four Fat Fowl's decadent St. Stephen. Some of the unaged cheese gets blended with fall spices and annatto, creating a gorgeous center stripe of autumnal color and aroma. That warmth mingles with a salted butter flavor, like a bite of pumpkin pie made savory.   Along with the launch of the cheese comes the launch of the second limited-edition graphic tee in our series highlighting the creativity that inspires our Cave Aged cheeses! This playful tee is designed by illustrator Toby Triumph. His spirited characters and eye-catching typography help make our fan-favorite fall cheese feel larger than life. The shirts are made from 100% ring spun cotton and available in S-XL online and in store.   Like Buttered Pumpkin itself, these shirts are only available for a limited time. We are thrilled to continue sharing the artistry of our affineurs and craftsmanship of local artists with the Murray’s community!

  • Good food and great fashion never go out of style! We are so excited to share the Murray’s Vintage T-Shirt, a limited-edition collaboration with Dinner Service.    Inspired by the city we’ve called home since 1962, we’ve partnered with Dinner Service NY to create a T-shirt that celebrates the brand’s rich history, iconic heritage, and enduring connection to New York City.   Known for its culture-forward apparel and creative collaborations with leading brands, Dinner Service brought a distinctly nostalgic point of view to the Murray’s legacy. Together, we've reimagined our iconic Bleecker Street shop through the lens of a vintage New York baseball T-shirt—creating a piece that feels both rooted in the past and relevant today.   The design draws directly from the character and history of our legendary retail location. A custom graphic captures the storefront in a worn-in, vintage-inspired treatment, while layered typography and velvet flocking add texture, dimension, and depth. A stitched Murray’s logo sits on the front pocket, complemented by throwback red bands at the neck and sleeves to complete the classic baseball-T silhouette.   The result is a collaborative expression of Murray’s history through Dinner Service’s creative lens: a nostalgic, tactile piece that celebrates the place, people, and legacy that has made Murray’s a New York institution for generations.   We’ve been known for our expertly curated selection, knowledgeable service, and iconic Bleecker Street shop for over sixty years, and we can’t wait to continue serving generations of cheese and artisanal food lovers in New York and beyond. You can check out the shirt at the link below! https://bit.ly/3SOWNb5

  • Yesterday we celebrated National Dog Day with a “Dog Days of Summer” event in partnership with Rescue City—a non-profit, foster-based dog rescue based in Brooklyn, New York. Rescue City conducts lifesaving rescue transports from open intake shelters that are unable to save a high percentage of animals. These efforts help save hundreds of dogs every year! They had two adorable and adoptable pups on site; Erling and his sister Heidi—both of whom received several applications for adoption!     We welcomed our incredible community (of both dogs and humans!) to Bleecker Street for delicious samples of our cheese, Schaller & Weber hot dogs, photo opps, and a lot of puppy love. A portion of our proceeds from National Dog Day will be donated to Rescue City, so they can continue doing the amazing work that they do. NYC’s Best Mac and Cheese? We’ll take that! Our very own Chef Clare Malfitano was recently featured in Bon Appetit's “Made To Order” series, showcasing how we make the Murray’s signature baked mac and cheese. The series spotlights professional chefs from beloved local spots making some of their signature dishes and giving insight into how home cooks can adapt them in their own kitchen. Her deep expertise and skill shine through beautifully, and we’re so happy to share a small piece of her Murray’s expertise with the Bon Appetit community! You can check out the full video at the link below. https://bit.ly/4vYXbkC

  • This week, we are celebrating our latest limited Cave Aged release, Sunday Sauce, a custom developed cheese inspired by a classic Tuscan pecorino rubbed in tomato juice. A true celebration of the creativity of our Affineur, Sunday Sauce uses Point Reyes Toma—a perfectly buttery snacking cheese—and tomato paste for deeper flavor. And..big news! We're celebrating the creativity that inspires our Cave Aged Cheeses with a new limited-edition graphic tee series. We’ve invited a group of artists to interpret the distinct personalities of our Cave Aged cheeses in their own unique styles—transforming each cheese into a wearable work of art that celebrates imagination, craftsmanship, and character. For our first release, local textile and graphic designer Kayla Creamer brings Sunday night Italian supper to life. Made from 100% ring spun cotton and available in S-XL online and in store. But hurry—quantities are limited, just like Sunday Sauce!  Be on the lookout for more of these unique-to-Murray's designs in conjunction with select limited Cave Aged cheese drops.

  • We’re celebrating National Cheese Day with the launch of our Murray’s Rare Finds campaign, your passport to the most unique, small-batch cheeses crafted by artisans around the world.   Our first release is a once-in-a-lifetime taste of Swiss tradition and craft: Vorderfultigen Gruyère AOP Spezial. From award-winning Swiss Cheesemaker Pius Hitz, this cheese is rarely available in the U.S. (until now). A longer-aged version of this Gruyère won World Champion Cheese at the 2025 World Cheese Awards, placing first among 5,200 entries from 46 countries. When we tasted this shining example of authentic Gruyère, we knew we had to bring it to the Murray’s community—and we’ve brought in the largest batch available in the United States. Join in on the Cheese Day fun today at our Bleecker Street store with a Summer Alp Fest from 3-7pm. You can be among the first in NY to taste Vorderfultigen Gruyère AOP Spezial, catch a Gruyère wheel crack, enjoy samples from a few of our favorite partners, all while taking in performances from the traditional Swiss Alp Horn throughout the day. We’ll never pass on an opportunity to share new and unique tastes from around the world with our community right here in NYC! Learn more about the campaign and event here: https://bit.ly/4e2B8Tn
