  • A road is closed to cars. A council debating whether people should stand up in pubs. A singer locks their fans’ phones in pouches. London's most famous street is in the headlines this week, the story, the latest in a pattern about pubs, off-app dates and device-less gigs. On the surface they’re unrelated. Underneath, they’re all about the same thing: where and how we run into each other.

  • Visibility has become the top form of social capital, the thing that proves you’re cool, edgy, chic or gloriously nonchalant (pick your adjective).
