Don't you hate things you wish weren't true but probably are? Over time, we encounter things in our everyday lives that we suspect might not be so good for us. Most of the time, after a long period, science catches up with our intuition. There doesn't seem to be a consensus yet as to whether ingesting micro, nano, or other plastics are responsible for human health problems. But it sure looks like the evidence is building. Plastics are everywhere (and inside us). They serve many, many valuable purposes. It's hard to imagine we'd have some of the things we do today without them. But ... plastics are also ever-present in food and beverage packaging and probably increase human exposure (by ingestion) to micro and nano particles. With the scientific-consensus jury still out, pieces like “The Plastic Detox,” a new Netflix documentary, continue to pique the public's interest in the potential role of plastics in human health. “The Plastic Detox” is careful to say it’s not a scientific study (that's certainly true!), but 7 minutes into the 90-minute film, it does hit on the point that gives me pause with this debate: plastic exposure is everywhere, including food packaging--and fabrics and other human-contact products. So, while we await the health-connection verdict on plastics, there's certainly an easy way to minimize or avoid some exposures to plastics when eating and drinking. It's what we do here at O-I. Buy, use, and reuse glass containers for food and beverage consumption. Maybe you have a different opinion? https://lnkd.in/eebKxNib #packaging #glass
