If you were affected by the October 1 flash floods and still need help recovering, call 211! The Metro Omaha Flood-Recovery Group is working together to connect impacted residents with local agencies that can provide longer-term assistance based on their needs. Calling 211 is the first step. Please help us spread the word to neighbors who may still need support. “We know that close to 150 homes in Omaha were damaged by the October 1 flash floods,” said Douglas County Director of Emergency Management Whitney Shipley. “We have already started to see people from those households call into the 211 hotline, but we know that more people impacted by the flood are out there who haven’t yet called in.”

A strong grant strategy starts before the application. For nonprofits, the question is not only whether you can apply for a grant but whether the opportunity fits. That can be a difficult concept... to possibly apply for fewer grants. One practical place to start a real grants strategy is defining your grants team - this should be more than just YOU. Your team should include program staff, finance, and leaders in the organization who can add their expertise to the planning. At minimum, make sure more than one person knows where key grant materials live, what deadlines are coming up, which funders are active, and what reporting obligations are already on the calendar. Next, improve your grants calendar. Build it backward from when funding is actually needed, not just from the due date. Include prep time, expected award dates, reporting deadlines, renewal windows, fiscal-year timing, and any finance questions that could affect the budget. A stronger grants system does not require a large staff but it DOES require shared understanding, clear roles, and enough documentation that the work can keep moving when priorities shift or someone is out. Our latest blog shares takeaways from OCF’s recent Grant Seeking & Grant Writing for Financial Resilience workshop. https://lnkd.in/gmPgcfeW

The Omaha Community Foundation is looking for an Advisor to join our Donor Services team. This position is centered on relationships. Advisors serve as trusted partners to our fundholders who are donors in the local community. Advisors help them explore charitable goals, make informed giving decisions, and create lasting impact through philanthropy. Success in this role comes from taking the time to understand what matters most to each person and helping them navigate opportunities that align with their values. Responsibilities include grantmaking guidance, charitable planning, legacy giving conversations, educational opportunities for fundholders, and relationship management with professional advisors and corporate partners. The role also helps strengthen awareness of the Omaha Community Foundation throughout the community by representing OCF at events and building connections that support philanthropic growth. We're looking for someone who enjoys working closely with people and providing a high level of service. Experience in client relationship management, financial planning, charitable giving, trusts and estates, or a similar field can provide a strong foundation for success. If you are energized by helping people put their generosity into action, we'd love to hear from you. Learn more and apply: https://lnkd.in/gxF5Ppw6

The Omaha Community Foundation is proud to participate in the Heartland Honors 9/11 campaign, a community-wide effort that invites all of us to remember, reflect, and show appreciation through action. "I was in Omaha that day, having returned just the day before from a trip that included New York City and San Francisco. Days earlier, I had taken a flight similar to one that was later attacked. The gravity of that reality did not fully sink in until much later. In those first hours, my instinct and focus was on the people around me."
