More than medication experts, pharmacists are trusted partners in care. Join us in recognizing their impact during #AmericanPharmacistsMonth. 🧡

When people think about pharmacy, they often think about prescriptions.  What I've seen is that pharmacists do much more than that.  For many patients, especially those managing complex conditions, pharmacists help answer questions, navigate barriers, coordinate care and stay on track with treatment. They are often the healthcare professional patients interact with most frequently, and their guidance can make a meaningful difference in outcomes and overall experience.  As healthcare becomes more personalized and complex, the role of the pharmacist has never been more important.  This #AmericanPharmacistsMonth , I'm grateful for pharmacists like Ronda Wenzel, Isaac Galli, PharmD and Jan Nguyen, and for all those who help patients navigate their healthcare journey every day.  Read the story in the comments, and let me know: What role have pharmacists played in your healthcare experience?

We’re honored to welcome LTG (Ret) Patricia “Patty” D. Horoho back to Optum Serve as CEO. Patty served 33 years in the U.S. Army and was the first woman and first nurse to serve as the Army Surgeon General and Commander of the U.S. Army Medical Command. As founding CEO, Patty helped establish Optum Serve and shape its mission-driven culture serving military service members, Veterans, their families and all who keep our world safe and running. As Patty returns to lead our next chapter, we’re proud to celebrate her recent recognition on the Forbes’ list of America’s Most Successful Living Veterans. This honor reflects a lifetime dedicated to service. As Patty shared, “Throughout my career in servant leadership, I have learned that the strongest organizations are built on trust, service, accountability and a commitment to something greater than ourselves.” Join us in welcoming Patty back.

🧡 This Healthy Aging Month, we're celebrating the everyday moments that make life meaningful and the importance of staying well enough to enjoy them. For Dr. Justine Suba-Cohen, an Optum family medicine physician, and her mom, Julie, those moments are a reminder of why preventive care matters. As our health needs change over time, annual checkups and preventive care can help people stay healthy and continue doing the things they love at any age.

We've seen strong evidence that value-based care improves health outcomes for Medicare Advantage patients. Now, research published in The American Journal of Managed Care suggests those benefits may reach even further. Researchers, including our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ken Cohen, found that traditional Medicare patients saw better outcomes when they received care from physician groups using value-based care approaches. According to the study authors, this research is the first to show that the benefits of more coordinated and connected care may extend to a broader group of Medicare patients. • Since launching a virtual nursing program in 2024, Owensboro Health has transformed nursing care at the bedside so more time can be dedicated to helping people heal. With over 30,000 patient interactions since launch, the impact is real. Taking tasks like admissions and discharges off the nurses at the bedside, technology has enabled more time for compassionate care and improved the patient experience. In July alone, 337 hours of nursing time was returned to the bedside. That is like having more than two additional full time nurses. I'm proud of our collaboration and the commitment our teams have to their mission, "To heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve." • Women's health is personal, and that's what made this year's Women's Health Summit so meaningful.   This week, we brought together an incredible group of leaders and experts for an honest conversation about the realities many women face, from balancing caregiving responsibilities and prioritizing their own health to navigating major health decisions and finding support when they need it most.   Thank you to everyone who shared their expertise, experiences and perspectives, and to those who continued the conversation during our networking reception afterward. The connections and conversations that happen beyond the stage are often just as valuable. ❤️   Sarah Cooper Sarah King Lindsay Jurist-Rosner
