The Global Shark & Ray Census just recorded its first win. 🦈 In data- poor regions, we often don't know which sharks and rays are actually there. And you can't protect what you can't see. That's the gap the Census was built to close, and Vanuatu is exactly that kind of place. There, scientifically verified images submitted by PADI divers helped confirm the presence of four species: great hammerhead, reef manta, silvertip shark, and blacktip reef shark. The great hammerhead is on the IUCN's Red List as a critically endangered species! That diver-gathered data is now part of a scientific paper under peer review. This information can support research, national biodiversity assessments, and focused conservation efforts. This is what citizen science looks like below the surface.
