❤️ A heartfelt thank you to Assemblymember Diana Moreno, representing New York’s 36th Assembly District, for spending time with our Phoenix House NY family in Long Island City. It was truly special to welcome Assemblymember Moreno into our community, share our work, and introduce her to the people at the heart of everything we do. Hearing our residents’ stories of recovery, resilience, and new beginnings is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and that no one should have to walk that journey alone. We’re grateful for her interest in our mission and her support for the work that helps individuals and families rebuild their lives. Together, we can continue to create more opportunities for healing, hope, and lasting recovery in Astoria, Long Island City, and beyond. Thank you, Assemblymember Moreno, for taking the time to listen, connect, and learn more about the impact of our work. We look forward to what we can accomplish together! 💙 #PhoenixHouseNY #RecoveryIsPossible #HopeAndHealing #CommunityPartnership #Astoria #LongIslandCity

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 🎀 Phoenix House NY stands in support of all those affected by breast cancer and joins in raising awareness about the importance of early detection, regular screenings, and access to care. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. When breast cancer is detected in its early, localized stages, the five-year relative survival rate is over 99%. This month and every month, we encourage our community to prioritize their health, stay informed, and support those navigating a breast cancer diagnosis. 💗 Together, we can raise awareness, promote early detection, and remind one another that no one has to face their journey alone. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #PhoenixHouseNY #PinkOctober

Thank you Six Flags Great Adventure , for your generosity and support of the Phoenix House NY mission! 💙 Community partnerships like yours make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we’re building stronger communities and supporting brighter futures.
Today, the Phoenix House Harlem Clubhouse took a group trip to Six Flags. Sure, when we think of Six Flags, we probably think of roller coasters, funnel cake and souvenirs. But to our Clubhouse members, this trip meant so much more than that. Visiting a beautiful amusement park with tickets generously gifted by the Six Flags corporation gives our community a sense of dignity and respect. For many of these Clubhouse members, this was their first time at the park — their first time getting to belong to a group visiting Six Flags together. We had an amazing visit and hope to make this a tradition! And, thank you to Phoenix House for helping us secure these tickets, and to Six Flags Great Adventure for your generous gift. ♥️

Phoenix House reposted this
On this Indigenous People holiday, I find myself hustling to make an 8:15am train heading to a InUnity Alliance conference - “Meeting the Moment: Advancing Access and Impact for Our Communities” and the lessons have already begun. As I approach the train station, a man is curled up in deep sleep, no shoes, disheveled laying on a piece of cardboard on the raised section of the sidewalk. It truly bothers me when I see this; I am that person that always has a few dollars in my pocket to give away, narcan and/or food. This is the richest city in the world right? I have a few moments to spare so I take out narcan put some money in the kit and gently place it right beside him in the hope that when he wakes up- breakfast at least? Another person (assuming from the street homeless community) who saw me do this, screams at me and said “he sleep, he don’t need no narcan, he need food, some money- why don’t you do that?” I looked at the man and said “I did” and he turned to me and gave me the thumbs up. Lesson: Distributing narcan is the floor- we can rescue a life all day with Narcan, when are we going to restore lives. We know what people need to end this vicious cycle of homelessness: access to crisis services, treatment, housing, employment and healthy food. So off to the conference I go, knowing what I already know hoping this time something will change.
