💾 Legacy systems are quietly holding dentistry back. On this week’s all-new episode of The Dental CEO Podcast, Scott Leune dives into a growing problem many practices still underestimate: outdated, server-based imaging systems that lock data into silos, slow teams down, and make it harder to scale, integrate AI, or deliver a modern patient experience. Scott is joined by Dustin Johnson, Co-Founder and CTO of SOTA Cloud, for a candid conversation about why legacy imaging platforms are no longer just inconvenient—they’re actively costing practices time, money, flexibility, and future opportunity. They unpack how cloud-based imaging replaces fragmented systems with connected, secure, and scalable infrastructure—and why practices still relying on legacy tech are already behind. Whether you’re launching a startup, running multiple locations, or frustrated by disconnected systems that limit growth, this episode is a must-listen. 🎧 Listen & subscribe: https://lnkd.in/ezZ-Rr75 Scott Leune Scott V. Dr. Barry Bartusiak runs 10-minute appointments, hits the gym by 3 p.m., and still outperforms practices working twice the hours. After 35+ years in practice, 575+ lectures across 44 states, and serving as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ team dentist, Dr. B joined Joe Lynch on The Margin Line to share what actually drives efficiency, production, and culture in modern dentistry. This episode breaks down building a patient-first environment, using technology to remove confusion and objections, creating “wow” moments that turn scans into same-day lab starts, and why simple details like clean bathrooms can influence case acceptance more than expensive chairs. He also shares practical metrics like the $25K-per-employee benchmark, 90-day peer reviews for new hires, and keeping problems small before they grow. 🦷 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁: “𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘖𝘛𝘈 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘥. Last week, I sat down with a founder who built a multi-million dollar business working just 180 days/year. He walked me through the tech stack that makes it possible. When I sat down with Dr. Barry Bartusiak on The Margin Line, I expected him to credit his growth to reputation or referrals. But when I asked what's driving new patient growth today, his answer was technology. "A confused patient doesn't make a decision," he told me. "The fastest way to get patients to accept treatment is to show them what I see. Seeing is believing." That philosophy shapes every tool in his dental practice: Pearl — AI-assisted diagnostics that overlay findings directly on the x-ray. Dr. B says this is especially powerful for younger associates building trust with patients. When a patient can see what's happening in their own mouth, case acceptance goes up. SOTA Cloud — Cloud-based imaging that makes sharing visuals with patients instant and effortless. If it's good enough for PDS Health, it's good enough for my practice. People love it. Dandy — Digital scanning replaces gross pink goop. The patient gets scanned, and before they leave the parking lot, their crown is already being developed. His first 98 Dandy crowns needed zero adjustments. I asked him: how do you separate technology with real potential from noise? His filter for evaluating any new technology is three questions: Does it improve patient care? Does it make us more efficient? Can we still make a profit? If the answer isn't yes to all three, he passes on the tool. Most established dental practices lose families to newer offices with shinier tech. Dr. B proves it doesn't have to be that way. A 35-year practice can feel as modern as one that opened last year if it invests in the right tools. Listen to the full conversation on The Margin Line. Link in comments.
