Texas Department of Public Safety

DPS investigates hundreds of threats to life every year, but most of them don’t make headlines. This week, in a matter of hours, DPS and law enforcement partners prevented a violent attack on the Texas Capitol – all because one person spoke up. Colonel Freeman F. Martin sat down with NBC DFW to highlight the importance of the community’s help in this case and so many others. Watch here ➡️ bit.ly/46RcX7j

This #NationalForensicScienceWeek, DPS would also like to highlight the Texas Ranger Division’s 16 Forensic Investigators – new positions made possible through funding allocated by the Texas Legislature. Stationed across Texas, these investigators are non-commissioned personnel assigned to support Texas Rangers working criminal investigations. Their specialized training allows them to help Rangers identify, collect, document and preserve forensic evidence at crime scenes. They also attend autopsies, submit and retrieve evidence from forensic laboratories and operate Leica 3D scanning equipment, among other duties. These Forensic Investigators are already making an impact in their new roles, and we look forward to their continued support of the Texas Rangers as they solve crimes and bring justice to Texas communities. #ProtectAndServe #TexasRangers

It’s National Forensic Science Week, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is recognizing the men and women of the Crime Laboratory Division for their continued service to our state. Texas is a leader in forensic science because of all the hard work they do—helping solving crimes and bringing justice to victims.   Some of their major achievements in the last year include: - Processing more than 113,000 requests for forensic testing. - Completing the first phase of SB 1723 – a new law that explores the use of Rapid DNA technology at booking facilities in Texas. - Implementing the state’s Limited Consent for DNA Testing Program. Our hearts are with the family and friends of Paul Luckey – the owner of Rockdale Memorial Company – and one of the men responsible for helping honor dozens of fallen Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) personnel across the state. Paul recently passed away.   The Luckey family, along with Richard and Don Metcalf and Tim Elliott, have placed around 100 stone monuments to help recognize and honor DPS personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty across the state of Texas. The idea was born out of respect for law enforcement, and together, they have made a true impact on this agency and the families who have lost a loved one.   We thank Paul and his family for the love and kindness they’ve shown the DPS family over the years; today, we send his family that same love in return.
