This summer, our interns brought new ideas and fresh thinking to every corner of our company. To celebrate #NationalInternDay this week, our interns introduced us to the art of “candy salad” and went around the office to interview some of our executives, including Chris Steele, Shannon Woods, Naomi Myers, Tim Fleming, and Brian Nelson, to learn more about what they love about The Mutual Group. Although the candy salad may not make it into our permanent snack rotation, we’re proud of the creativity, curiosity, and hard work this next generation of leaders brought this summer. Yesterday, we brought a little green into our workday. In partnership with GuideOne Foundation, The Mutual Group hosted a volunteer event with the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden at our office, where team members gathered to connect with nature and with one another. We were inspired by The Garden’s CEO Kim Perez, who shared the organization’s mission and the many ways it cultivates education, sustainability, and beauty right here in our city. Employees rolled up their sleeves to build mini terrariums to take back to their workspaces. It was a hands-on reminder of how even a small moment of inspiration can grow into something meaningful. Nothing says summer like an ice cream truck. This week, we brought one directly to our office in West Des Moines to help everyone cool off and enjoy a well-earned break. It’s a simple way to mark the season, add a little fun, and take the time to connect with colleagues from across the company over a few scoops.

As the Student Well-Being Sponsor of the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Career Ready Collective, The Mutual Group was proud to help nearly 200 high school students build skills and confidence for their future careers. Our chief administrative officer, Naomi Myers, along with our interns and other members of our team, led three breakout sessions focused on helping students navigate real-world challenges and discover their strengths. Now in its second year and backed by the Principal Charity Classic’s Legacy Project, this six-week summer program brings students from across Des Moines together to hear from nationally recognized speakers, connect with employers, and participate in experiences like a career fair and mock interviews. We believe that preparing students for career success starts with meeting them where they are, supporting their well-being, amplifying their strengths, and showing them what’s possible. #CareerReadyCollective #FutureFocused #DesMoines #CommunityImpact 

The GuideOne Foundation was a proud supporting sponsor of the 2025 West Des Moines Community Build. Along with The Mutual Group colleagues, we spent the day making positive change possible in our community. Our teams volunteered to help the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity in building three new, affordable homes that are just a few blocks from our office in West Des Moines. It was a great opportunity to create and preserve affordable homeownership for our local community.
