  • 140 years of serving children and families, and we’re continuing to look forward.💜 During the 2025–2026 year, Thompson served 5,687 clients across five states, reaching children, youth, and families through our programs and services. This year’s impact reflects not only the number of people we served, but also the growth, engagement, and outcomes made possible through the work of our team and the support of our community. We’re grateful to everyone who has helped make this impact possible and continues to believe in the work we do for children and families!

  • Leadership isn’t about doing it all yourself. It’s about knowing when to let your people lead! That’s one of the lessons Scott Nowokunski shares with Will Jones, our CEO, on the latest episode of CEOs You Should Know. Scott talks about the importance of trusting your team, creating an environment where people want to show up, and giving others the room to grow. It’s a perspective that connects closely with what we believe at Thompson: people thrive when they’re supported, trusted, and given the opportunity to grow. Sixty days into the CEO role, Will Jones brought his board a reduction in force. Thompson was spending about $5 million a year more than it brought in. Twice in his first weeks, the CFO had walked in with a letter moving endowment money to cover payroll. Will concluded the organization had more people than work, and that 20 to 25 positions had to go to get to an equilibrium. A board member asked whether it could wait six months. Will told me his answer: "I said, we can wait six months. I said, if in six months, it will be 50." The board backed the difficult move. Later in our conversation, Will was equally direct about himself. He moved fast on the cut, but with leaders who can't or won't grow, he says, "I probably wait too long." He thinks Thompson could already be a $100 million organization if he had acted faster. A coach once told him, "nobody ever said, I wish I would have waited longer to make a move." What's the hardest decision you delayed? And what did the wait cost? The episode is "RIF or Resign?" on The Nonprofit CEO Podcast. The link is in the comments.

  • During Charlotte FC’s Por La Cultura Night, Thompson had the opportunity to host an activation where kids at the game could get creative and share what their culture means to them through art! From the things they love to the traditions that make them who they are, each sign gave kids a chance to express themselves and celebrate what makes them unique. We’re so thankful to Charlotte FC for including Thompson in a night that celebrated culture, community, and connection! ⚽️💜 #charlotte #charlottefc #PorLaCultura #community

  • What can a few hours of your time really do? More than you might think. Volunteers play an important role in helping Thompson support children and families. Whether you’re sharing your skills, lending a hand at an event or simply showing up, your time can help strengthen our work and the communities we serve. Our latest blog explores why giving your time matters and why volunteering is about more than what you give. It’s also about the connections you make and the impact you can have. • Recently, our teens had the opportunity to participate in a Reality Check financial literacy workshop with Regions Bank at Thompson Child Development Center! From understanding everyday expenses to thinking through financial priorities, the workshop gave our teens a chance to build confidence around the financial decisions they’ll face as they become more independent. We appreciate Regions Bank for sharing their knowledge and helping our teens build practical skills they can carry with them into adulthood! #communitysupport #communityimpact #nonprofitcharlotte #kidsmatter

  • When athletes use their platforms to invest in young people, the impact can reach far beyond the field! At Thompson, we’re grateful to partner with athletes and organizations that share our commitment to creating meaningful experiences for children and youth. Through partnerships with Bryce Young and the Young 9 Foundation and Rasheed Walker and Youth Is the Future, Thompson kids have had opportunities to experience community, encouragement, mentorship, and moments that remind them of what’s possible for their future. These partnerships bring together people who care deeply about the next generation and turn that shared commitment into experiences that can make a real difference in a child’s life!
