The expansion means all of our outpatient adult psychiatry clinics in Orange County are now under one roof, creating a more convenient and connected experience for our patients and care teams. The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of our beautiful new space. The Heart and Vascular Service Line and Inpatient Medicine Services at UNC Hospitals recently celebrated the opening of the 18-bed Heart and Vascular Progressive Care Unit. The new stepdown unit marks the completion of phase one of a two-phase project to expand inpatient Heart and Vascular services across North Carolina. Phase two is expected to be completed in fall 2027 with the opening of a 20-bed acute care unit specializing in Heart and Vascular care. UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center has received $40 million from the OpenAI Foundation to generate data that could make personalized cancer vaccines more effective. “Our goal is to help the world design personalized and more effective cancer vaccines, using the power of rich data and artificial intelligence," says computational biologist Alex Rubinsteyn, PhD.

A new blood test is able to detect early-stage pancreatic cancer with notable levels of success, which experts have said could be a step forward for both diagnostics and treatment. "The results presented are very impressive and promising, greatly exceeding the limitations of the current 'gold standard,' the CA19-9 blood-based marker," says Channing Der, PhD, the Sarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the UNC School of Medicine and a researcher at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
